Thoughts on the league blocking the Chris Paul deal

Nice of you to leave out a 18 and 10 guy and a first round pick that could be at least be in the middle of the first round in a potentially packed draft. Martin is a big time scorer and Odom is the best 6th man in the league who constantly killed us.

Please, Scola and Odom are both over 30 and statistically due for huge drop offs in production.

But nobody likes the Bobcats, have no history, no assets, and are currently absolute dreck. Let Jordan have the Hornets in Charlotte, bump The Bobcats and a bad basketball city in one move.

Seattle should have a team as well. Just throwing that out there.

Got it! Minnesota and NO chopped, Bobcats sent to Seattle and given first two picks in contraction draft (Love and ?)

I like this.
There are some serious fans in Minnesota that I'd feel bad for, but they should be able to get behind the Bucks (Bulls more likely).

The problem is that New Orleans has to win games to get anyone to attend their games (unlike the Jazz) if they went completely rebuilding their arena will be a ghost town.

I really don't like the idea of the NBA stepping in and rescinding trades, but I like the idea of the NBA owning a franchise even less. When they purchased the Hornets with the intent to keep them in New Orleans, they set themselves up for controversy like this.

It was an absolute win for New Orleans:

Lamar Odom, Luis Scola, Kevin Martin and Gordon Dragic, plus two draft picks -- wow, what a haul!

How can you block your team from getting all those players for one who is going to leave after this year anyway. Something is very fishy. I guess other owners were concerned because it was relieving the Lakers of a lot of their financial burdens -- the Spurs owner sent a letter to Stern in that regard.

It would be in everyone's best interest if one team from each conference was contracted. That's the #1 thing here. THE NBA OWNS A TEAM BECAUSE NO ONE WOULD BUY.

Change the New Orleans Hornets to the Seattle Supersonics and sell (there will be a bidder), axe the Timberwolves and Bobcats. Or something.

New Orleans is actually doing very good financially (prior to popular belief).

While I love that Stern nixed the trade just to piss Paul and the Lakers off, I also felt that this needed to be posted here.

Loggrad98 you misspelled know. It's not spelled "now". Just thought I'd nitpick and point that out since you like to spell check me.

My apologies, I thought this was BluesRocker spelling day. But this really is a MOOT point anyway.

Okay. But I didn't say anything about how New Orleans is doing. Besides that, people really don't seem to care about the Hornets relative to the quality of the product they have and the size of the city. And after Paul's gone, who's going to buy it THEN?

Speaking as someone who lives pretty closely to NOLA (bout an hour away) support is stronger than you think. This past year a lot was done to promote the team and sell tickets and the community responded. Yes, that will take a hit without Paul, but I would still not make them the top amnesty candidate. Someone will eventually buy them.

Honestly, management screwed the Hornets from every truly being able to compete with some really bad signings and inability to land anything in the draft outside of Paul and Collison.

If no one is willing to buy the Hornets then that is reflective of the true value of the franchise. No one is talking contraction for real, but it seems pretty clear that at least two teams should be chopped and you could make a case for a third as well. And pretty easily.

Who would the other two be? If not careful the Jazz could be on that list.

Those are the 2 from each conference. In the Western Conference chop the least profitable team, and then the least successful of the teams that are left. Same in the east to make 4 teams total (2 in each conference) then go back to 4 divisions. By this criteria no way the Jazz are gone since all published reports show the Jazz in the middle of the pack for profitability and definitely on the high side for regular season record. Just take the past 20 years or something for success. Or take the teams with the least post-season appearances and cut the 2 least profitable off that list for both conferences. Either way the Jazz stay.

Haha. Ok. You got me on that one. I really thought it was mute. I learned something today. I have to ask though. Do you work for Microsoft word? Are you the designated spell checker? Have you never misspelled anything? The answer is yes you have. Everyone does. If you'd like I can grade your all your grammar too.

Paul is either going to LA in a trade or going to NYC on his own free will.

Please stop saying New York. Tyson Chandler ended any chance they had at signing Paul as a FA. Maybe they can trade Melo for him, since Amare was rejected. But FA, no way.

Swerving from their strategy of preserving cap space for a 2012 run at Chris Paul, Dwight Howard or Deron Williams, the Knicks made a successful run at acquiring Tyson Chandler.

As critical as a change as it is for the Knicks to take themselves out of the running for one of those three superstars, the short-term prospect of going into the 11-12 season without Chauncey Billups at point guard is troublesome. New York will have unproven Toney Douglas coming off a serious shoulder injury and rookie Iman Shumpert responsible for point guard duties.
