What's new

Do you really want Josh Howard??

We Are definitely not all like this. Hell, english is my third language, and I was born in Germany, but you won't find an opportunity where Im not yelling our national anthem as proudly as I can when the moment arises.
Uh, I'm Canadian. I think it's entirely reasonable for African Americans to not be patriotic.

We're talking about Josh Howard, not some random African American. The same Josh Howard who made millions sucking the great American ***.

It's also the same Josh Howard who grew up in a bad neighbourhood in Winston-Salem without a father. Making millions as an adult hardly makes up for a bad childhood. It's not as if Josh Howard was born into millions.

Oh I agree. Its just that I've come across literature that call Canadians "unpatriotic", so its just one of those things I felt the need to point out. I would never resort to disliking Howard simply because he refrained from singing the anthem.

Stupidity aside he does not bring anything to the Jazz. Coming of injured ACL is no good either. So to answer OP question, no I do not want him on the Jazz.

Josh Howard may be a pothead and I'm not sure how well thought-out his reasoning is here, but if his biggest problem is that he refuses to participate in the jingoistic, ritual farce that is the performance of the anthems. It's a sports event. The Mavericks do not represent the entire USA, nor do their opponents here. An NBA game is hardly the sort of formal occasion that calls for the playing of the national anthem.

I don't stand up for anthems, either. I guess the terrorists have won, then.

Holy ****, JimLes is ****ing dominating this thread. Reppp'd! 104 posts, welcome to the board.

Where's Marcus?

That has nothing to do with him being patriotic or not.

No white person has ever had a bad childhood either. Fail!

So none of you white folk think that black people on this continent were dealt a rough hand? Which continues to be pretty rough? You'd all trade places with an average black teenager in America or Canada?

I stand and am respectful during anthems, but I don't hold my hand on my heart, as I don't see this as necessary as part of the show of respect. I do believe, however, that the ad nauseam repetition of the National Anthem and its attendant rituals cheapens it. Much like the ad nauseam recitation of prayers for every single stupid event in a not to be name dominant local religion. At some point, the endless repetition of ritual becomes ritual for ritual's sake and an exercise in social pressure and the meaning behind it becomes muted.

Plus, I don't like being pressured to wear my patriotism on my sleeve. I love my country as much as the next person, even if I don't feel the need to showcase this sentiment repeatedly.

Not sure where he fits?? Hayward and CJ are our small forwards, then throw in Milsap (???) and Evans, not sure there is a place for him. I see Hayward and Miles getting most of the minutes here, with both of them potentially rotating throught the 2 with Burks and Bell. Just no room!! I kind of like this team as it is presently constituted.

PG: Harris, Watson, Tinsley
SG: Bell, Burks
SF: Hayward, Miles, Evans
PF: Favors, Milsap
C: Jefferson, Okur, Kanter

Extra: Carter (guy can shoot)

I think that it will be difficult for Corbin to find minutes for all these guys, especially if he goes small with Harris playing the 2 on occasion.

EVeryone deals with different situations in any number of ways. Let's say someone kill both your parents then hands you a million dollars. Is the million dollars enough for you to ignore what happened to your parents? NO one handed any athlete millions of dollars they earned it. Now if Howard doesn't feel a jump out of his shoes patriotism to a country that treated his ancestors as dogs. I think that he is justified.

As for disrespecting the national anthem: To me, the national anthem is symbolic, along with our flag, for all the men and women who have sacrificed blood, sweat and lives to protect the rights and freedom we enjoy on a daily basis. Anyone who uses the national anthem or our flag as a political/personal statement is showing they don't remember or appreciate what has been done for them. It's a very selfish approach, to be honest. I also think it does more harm to your position than helps.

Disagree. It is entirely feasible that someone remembers and appreciates what has been done for them, including the sacrifices those who have sacrificed to protect their rights and freedoms, and still choose to use the national anthem or flag as a political statement. It is also entirely feasible that they are just as patriotic as you. Challenging icons and iconographic status is a well-established and credible form of protest. To me the freedoms you and others claim that the others sacrificed for includes the freedom of political expression that is not confined within the bounds that the hyper-patriotic define for it.

I think they should trade places with you and then drive off a cliff.

Really dude, take it somewhere else.

Jeff McDonald: Hearing it is unlikely Josh Howard gets the full $5 million mid-level from anyone. Twitter

At less than the full mid-level, I'm ok with signing the guy.

1) It's not news that he won't be getting the MLE.
2) There is NO WAY the Jazz would spend that on Josh Howard.

But then again, I didn't think it possible for them to be interested at all.

I don't want the Jazz to overspend on Howard. I would rather that they find some young talent if there is going to be a bidding war for Howard. How about Blake Griffin's brother is he available?

Hmm. Is the million dollars negotiable?

I kid.
