Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

Having Brunson at $30M for the next 5 years doesn't limit their roster flexibility significantly? They'd have 2 max deals. THJ was under contract already and not close to a max deal. They would've had the highest payroll in the NBA if they resigned Brunson for a team that almost swept in the WCF.
They don’t have to give him 30M… could likely keep him at 25 per on average… they wouldn’t have the highest payroll… warriors will be way higher. That’s part the difference though… warriors will pay like 100M between tax and salary just to keep Looney and Payton.

Mavs could find homes for Dinwiddie or TH and pay tax for a year then have flexibility. Or do what the Warriors did and flip Brunson later for different assets.

It is what it is… think it’s a significant loss and will come back to haunt them.

Like you guys are really trying to argue that the Mavs should have paid Brunson more than Tatum and Don, what a time to be alive.
Sure… that’s what we said…word for word…

The Knicks can are preparing to offer him $30M. They'd have the second highest payroll to have at best the 4th best team in the West again. Golden State also has 3 HOF players in their last window to win titles. Dallas couldn't even get out of the first round when Kawhi was healthy.

Dallas realized that they're not a true contender and didn't make the same mistake as we did overpaying average players with minimal trade value.

Don't understand Knicks
They are clearing out their roster to get Brunson
But it sounds like Mavs are going to keep him
What do Knicks do now?

Knicks are reportedly doing 25M per… new cba 25M is going to be close to average starter money. Brunson becomes the best guy they have at playing winning basketball… sucks they paid Randle but I’m not going to make decisions on sunk costs.

Mavs aren't willing to pay as much as the Knicks to keep him. He's gone.

Either of these guys credible… I mean Monty full of ****, but the other handle?
My question would be, assuming if true, how much of this has to do with Hardy? Also, if there’s any truth to Celtics, who does Hardy want?

You are projecting some serious bull **** here… they realized that Mark doesn’t want to pay 100M in tax… and his GM isn’t smart enough to realize they can make other moves on the edges of the roster to limit the tax bill. This is Mark not wanting to cut the check and that’s it.

Woj reported that they're going to offer him $30M that's why they just dumped Burks and Noel.

Dallas is still going to be deep into the tax without Brunson. Having like $70M a year to Luka/Brunson limits what they can put around them. Brunson isn't a building block piece and we'll look back at this like the Randle/Collins contracts where their teams are desperate to move on but no one wants them.

If Ballmer or Lacob was the owner of the Mavs, there would be no discussion about this Brunson deal. They would do everything they could do to keep him. Losing talent without the ability to replace it is very bad when it comes to winning. This move is very good for Cuban's pockets, but not for winning a championship. The opportunity cost of keeping Brunson is almost entirely on Cuban's pockets. I understand that team owners face the dilemma between the desire to win and the desire to be even more rich, but I personally don't give a damn about how rich they are. It is really bad when Ryan Smith chooses his wealth over winning because I only care about the latter. OTOH, it is also good for the Jazz when their competitors make the same decision. The Mavs are much worse off without Brunson than with him when it comes to winning.

Right, so what are they going to do going forward? They got worse.
They have an MVP caliber player that's improving and a great player development staff. Brunson was a 2nd round pick that was a non factor in the playoffs until this season now he's worth Don/Tatum money.

Not to mention Brunson is the only guy close to Lukas timeline. In two years they gonna have Luka, DFS, and a bunch of old AF guys making mid teen money… I’m sure Luka will love that.
