Following potential 2012 draftees

I'm less worried than most. Sure there's guys I'd rather have, but I think there's 12 players I could get real excited about ... we'll make one or two very good pick ups.

Yup, and I know it's terrible of me to hope my team doesn't make the playoffs, but damn it, I want as big a piece of the 2012 draft as possible. **** getting our asses handed to us in the first round, GET MORE TALENT!

I feel better now.

Haha, I agree.

I "third" this. I want to develop the young talent much more than I want to maybe pickup the 8th seed in the playoffs. That said, if we end up with 2 lottery picks I really don't see how we can reasonably keep both with the amount of ultra young talent on the team now. I'd love to package both and target a guy. Being that the draft is so deep its not far fetched to think 8/11 could net the 5th pick is it? (is that too much to give up? are we screwing them? are they screwing us? magnets, how do those work?)

That's a tough one, but I think I would rather have #8 and #11 then just #5. The drop off from fifth to eighth really isn't much. Maybe it would be in a normal draft, but this isn't a normal draft, is it?

True, its just that having 2 rookies, 2 sophs and Hayward/Favors is an awfully young team. Almost half of your roster would have no more than 2 years of actually NBA experience to start camp in 2012. I see next season as the team starting to turn "potential" into wins.

Take the #8 and #11 .. then package a trade, if needed. The difference between #5 and #11 will be almost non-extistent.

Thee Jazz fan wanted me to stop by and let you know you're all idiots.

OT: Some seemingly crazy lines today .. may cash in.

Ohio State -14.5 on SCarolina. Ohio St will cover easily
Baylor an UNDERDOG (by 1.5) to BYU. Seriously, you can't make this stuff up.
Miss St a 3.5 favorite over Detroit. Take MSU to cover.

Perry Jones is for real. Very impressed. Quincy Miller? Not so much. Obviously very long but didn't really do much of anything. A very "blah" performance. Admittedly this is the first I've seen him for an entire game. Davies obviously isn't in any draft discussions but 18/13 against a Jones, Acy, Miller front line is pretty impressive......and then you look at the fact he doesn't show up the majority of the year beyond today.

All good points. That's the knock on Quincy (and JonesIII, for that matter) .. you don't know what you'll get game to game. Talent is there for both .. same knock on TJones. Opposite is true and why so many are so high on Kidd-Gilchrist.

Davies numbers are a bit decieving. In the first half he was very impressive, but he finished the game 6 for 15 from the field and other than his 3 point play he disappeared offensively in the second half. He also got into foul trouble and baylor went inside over and over again in that second half and destroyed davies. Davies has had a very bad year so far and todays numbers look good overall but when baylor took control of the game davies didn't do much to respond. Carlino on the other hand looked pretty amazing for his first college game in a big game setting like that. He looks to be the one who will fill the Jimmers shoes.

I noticed that too. He looked like he was trying too hard at times though.

I agree with this, but overall, in that environment and under that kind of hype (he's been talked about in regards to following Jimmer for basically 12 months), I thought his demeanor was impressive. I wouldn't have been surprised if he came out and laid and egg.

As far as Davies numbers being "deceiving", I'm not sure thats the word I'd use. To me "deceiving" would be if one of Baylor's big guys didn't play or something along those lines. He got those numbers against 2 probable lottery picks and was a huge part of the 13 point lead BYU amassed in the first half. True, he wasn't much of a factor in the second half but that was as much a byproduct of the offense not going through the post much in the second half as it was Davies being neutralized, IMO.

I keep saying this, but I can't see a scenario under which we can grab K-G. I think he will keep climbing mocks all the way up till the draft. At this point he's my 1A.

Rodney Hood hit the go-ahead game winning shot with 17 seconds left. He only played 17 minutes because the refs were all over him with foul calls early in the 1st and 2nd half. Finished with 8 points and 4 assist on 3/5 shooting. Prepared to destroy Quincy Miller next week.

I didn't know MSU is playing Baylor next week. That should be an excellent game. Where's it played? I'm calling the home team to win.

Neutral location, but it is in Dallas, so it will be pretty much a home game for Baylor.

I think I'm officially on the "I want Perry Jones" bandwagon.

I seem to recall a while back reading on this thread that it has been decided (by those who know) that Jones is a PF, not a SF. Sorry for bringing it up again if it's already been hashed out, but if somebody's in this camp could you please tell me why Jones won't be an NBA SF? Does he lack lateral quickness (like Jeremy Evans) and would thus have trouble guarding the SF position? Is his frame filling out too quickly to really expect him to retain his quickness? Is there something lacking offensively for the SF?

This is all probably moot, since I can't see him going lower than 3 in the draft this year and I don't expect the Jazz to be that bad. But could you imagine a squad in 3 years with Burks, Hayward, Jones, Favors, and Kanter?

I like Gilchrist but would be fine with another top SF at this point. Man I hope GSW land the #8 pick lol.
