What's new

2022 Annual Jazzfanz Current NBA Draft

PG - Ben Simmons / Malcolm Brogdon
SG - SGA
SF - OG Anunoby / DeAndre Hunter
PF - Zion Williamson / Aaron Gordon
C - Nikola Jokic / Chris Boucher

Absolutely filthy.
It could end up being a good team, it has a little potential with comeback players of the year possibilities. You also have two starters that might play little to none next year. Also building basically no shooters around Jokic is pretty rough, kind of wasting his talents.

What two starters do I have that may play little to none next year?

That team won't make it out of the first round this year. Maybe next year you can prove people wrong or it's even worse.
I'd have...
Starters (last year healthy):
Ben Simmons - 14 ppg, 7 rpg, 7 apg on 57/0/61 splits (All-Star, All-Defense, DPOY runner up)
SGA - 25 ppg, 5 rpg, 6 apg on 45/30/81 splits
OG Anunoby - 17 ppg, 6 rpg, 3 apg on 44/36/75 splits
Zion Williamson - 27 ppg, 7 rpg, 4 apg on 61/29/70 splits (All-Star, highest PPG on over 60% FG in NBA history)
Nikola Jokic - 27 ppg, 14 rpg, 8 apg on 58/34/81 splits (MVP)

Reserves:
Malcolm Brogdon - 19 ppg, 5 rpg, 6 apg on 45/31/86 splits
DeAndre Hunter - 13 ppg, 3 rpg, 1 apg on 44/38/76 splits
Aaron Gordon - 15 ppg, 6 rpg, 3 apg on 52/33/74 splits
Chris Boucher - 9 ppg, 6 rpg on 46/30/77 splits

So I have two dudes (Zion/Jokic) that can put up like 30 ppg on 60% FG (historic level scoring/efficiency) surrounded by long, versatile athletic wings that can play multiple spots and defend multiple spots.

Yeah but Ben Simmons would rather play Call of duty than in a playoff game

Simmons would also have the benefit of being like the 4th/5th option though so he'd just have to be a super role player as opposed to the #2 guy on the #1 seed like he was with the 76ers. A lot of people are down on him and I get it, I just think he was somewhat miscast in Philly as the #2 guy when he's more of a Draymond Green type of player.

Both are reportedly healthy now.

I wouldn't bet on either playing a full season. But it's a possibility, that's why it's risky. Simmons is possibly healthy from his back issue but that was true in the playoffs. He won't ever be clear of whatever mental health issue he has. Zion hasn't proven the ability to stay healthy in the NBA yet, but it's a possibility this is the year. Both missed an entire season last year.

There has been literally nothing to indicate that either guy will miss any time next season. Simmons and Zion were both reportedly healthy enough to play in the playoffs last year.
So they were healthy to play in the playoffs? How did that turn out? That's not helping your argument.

They could be healthy and get back to what they were before missing a ton of time. But it's risky and it will hurt your voting this year. But winning next year is more fun because that's more important than guessing. Just pointing out it's risky.

There wasn't really any reason for the Pelicans to rush Zion back into action because they have so much invested into him. Ben not playing is definitely a lot more concerning considering the Nets had championship aspirations this year but when you're getting a 25 year old All-NBA/DPOY level player that was the 2nd best player on the #1 seed the year prior at #65 it's a risk worth taking, imo.

I got two top tier All-NBA level players that were former #1 picks and generational athletes at a discounted price due to the fact that they both missed the entire season. I'd prefer to shoot for elite talent with risk then average talent with no risk.

I'd guess that I have more max contract level players in their prime (4 - Jokic, Zion, Ben, SGA) then anyone else in the draft.

I don't mind the risk.

Zion has yet to prove he can stay healthy in the NBA though. That's the biggest concern. The talent is there. Maybe if they reduced his role and minutes, he takes his body more serious, and has good luck it could happen for the first time this year. So far he wishes he could have Exums health.

The thing with Zion though is that he really hasn't had any serious injuries, he just hasn't played a ton because he has been out of shape and the Pelicans have been overly precautious with him because they really haven't been anywhere near contention since they drafted him.

I think that his new contract (weight/body fat % clause) will motivate him to be in shape as will the fact that the Pelicans actually look like they're ready to make some noise with McCollum/Ingram/Zion.

If he's healthy he has shown he can produce at a historic rate but if he's out of shape it doesn't mean much. I just liked how he paired with Jokic and liked his upside where I took him.

I don't trust someone like that to get in shape just because his contract says. It's not a great track record for him or guys like him.

Both are healthy, and unless there’s reports they are missing the entire season you vote according to the report.
