A lot of fans in Cleveland, did not care for the direction of the franchise in Lebron's last season before heading to LAL. They took it out on Sexton who had to overcome the adversity of disgruntled vets, not interested in rebuilding after the finals runs,followed by season after season of starters just as raw or more than Sexton was at first.
He was not so much the tank commander as Garland was. Sexton was more or less playing on his own on a team full of misfits. Numerous coaching changes didn't help either. His injury and their success without him, ruined his value in Cleveland and so they gave Utah a player almost the same as the one they got.

Without someone to facilitate like Gobert he will struggle a bit until he adjusts, but he is an elite scorer so he will figure it out. My bet is he dips just a bit in total production and efficiency this next year and then the year after picks it back up again. Wouldn't be surprised to see him at 24 ppg with about 43% fg and 34% 3pt this next season as he figures it out with a new squad and without the most elite screen setting big the league has ever seen helping him out, and the gravity Gobert had at the rim that caused players to protect the lob, even when the lob wasn't coming. There are a lot of little nuances that drove his game higher on this squad that he won't have right off the bat, we were after all a pretty elite offensive team for the last 3-4 seasons, and it will take some adjustment.

Evan Mobley is light years ahead of Gobert as an offensive player and Darius Garland is head and shoulders above any playmaker that he has ever played with.

Playing with better offensive players won't help his production. The Jazz offense was tuned to get open 3s and get Mitchell in the best possible position to score, and Gobert is elite at that. He will have to share the ball on his new team way more than he did in Utah where he was not just the first option but nearly the only one. And Garland is no better than Conley as a playmaker, and don't forget the years he spent with Joe as a top playmaker. Although Garland is developing and will get better as a playmaker, so that will admittedly be a plus. He will still see a drop-off in production as he gets used to the new system, and he might drop off a lot more if Mobley and Garland continue developing and demanding the ball. That will be the interesting thing to watch, how do they share the ball, or do they all stand back and watch Mitchell chuck.

So the key to unlocking Mitchell is to take the ball out of his hands and having him shoot less?

I think the key for Cleveland finding success is getting a legit SF from somewhere. Until they do this first season will be all about Evan Mobley feasting with all the attention being paid to Spida and Garland. They also have Levert and a few others that can get hot like Kevin Love on that roster still.
I am giving the Cavs a shot at the top 3 seeds for the next few years if Spida plays defense and doesn't spoil their apple cart, since that is what they were all about last season with some success.

No but pairing him with arguably the best up and coming playmaking guard in the league that will get him easy looks and a big that can score and be effective outside of 1 foot will.

Garland is awesome… he also has a top 20 usage rate while Don is top 5. There will only be one ball on the court and Don doesn’t seem to thrive off the ball. But, that last statement is just my opinion… I’d love to see any metrics of his off ball efficiency and volume. I just don’t think that’s really been part of his game.

Collin Sexton averaged 24 ppg on great efficiency playing alongside Garland

Who else outside of Garland/Donovan creates shots on that team?

It's basically just Levert until Rubio gets healthy. Both players will have all the touches they need. The interesting thing would be who has the ball in their hands in the final minutes.

He is also 7 inches shorter. He is no Luka, and we already saw what 2 small guards can do together. I am not saying they can't make it work, but man will that be a nightmare defensively against bigger back courts.

Garland had usage of 27, Mitchell is over 33, both in the top 20 for the NBA. They are going to have to share ball-handling duties and efficiency and production for both will likely drop, at least at first.

He's clearly a better playmaker than Mike Conley, especially at this stage. He's one of the best passers/playmakers in the league.

Can't pass and make plays without the ball. A 33 usage player and a 27 usage player are going to clash at least at first. Which one gives it up? Likely it's Garland. His numbers will drop with Mitchell most likely.

It's taboo for Jazz fans but great teams around the league have multiple top tier ball handlers.

There is literally one team where it exists… Boston. I could be wrong and perhaps Mitchell won’t be a flop on the Cavs, but I don’t think it’s rational to expect Mitchell’s numbers to improve. Everyone on that team will need to give a little for the broader good.
