Health & Fitness Thread

Down to 186.0 this am.
When I was young sure, but I've always had a large frame, I was just lanky. My dad was a college football offensive lineman (albeit a smaller school) so I always knew I would fill out.

I also put on weight relatively quick (nothing exceptional, but definitely above average) when I committed to lifting, but that never lasted for more than 5 months or so at a time.

How tall are u? Feel like you’ve said 6’4” but I forget.

Nice. I got almost 100 pounds on you.
Ha. Yeah, I’d like to get to about 182 or so and continue getting stronger and shredding fat while maintaining that weight. My goal is to be under 34 pounds of fat at weigh in for four straight days by the end of the school year…and then go hardcore next summer and be at under 30 pounds going into next school year which would put me under 17% body fat for the first time in a loooooong time.

I've lost 9 pounds since Sept 1.

Not eating beef, rarely eating out, and keeping track of my food on an app has been working. I've been having a few meals delivered that require only a little cooking and helps me eat more nutritionally.

Good luck to all of us.

Nice job!

I'm amazed at how much different I feel just dropping 20 pounds. Time for a new belt and new pants shortly.

The best dieting trick I’ve picked up is to learn how to read food labels and find staple meals that fit into your goals. I have a hard time restricting myself, so it was easier to find a bunch of meals that I can eat at anytime and be in track. I also find that even when I’m not dieting, I’m mostly eating similar foods everyday so those meals might as well be good, healthy meals.

Once you’ve found enough meals that work for you, it’s easy to stick to them and it doesn’t feel like you’re being restricted. Every meal that’s a “good” me is a win. It’s also much easier to get back on the wagon if you splurge for a cheat meal or vacation.

For me, my number one meal is chicken breast nuggets from Costco. It’s convenient, affordable, and fits what I’m looking for (low cal, high protein). I have a child like appetite for nuggets, I can eat them everyday and never get sick of them.

Week 0, Aug 15 - 287.0 lbs
Week 1, Aug 23 - 282.4 (-4.6)
Week 2, Aug 29 - 276.8 (-5.6; -10.2)
Week 3, Sept 6 - 274.0 (-2.8; -13.0)
Week 4, Sep 13 - 272.8 (-1.2; -14.2)
Week 5, Sep 20 - 268.2 (-4.6; - 18.8)

Dangit, just shy of 20 pounds. Well 20 in 6 weeks is pretty good. Bought a new belt and dusted off my old size 38 pants. Decent progress, I'll take it. Couple more weeks to prepare for a 7-day water fast for autophagy. Will be shifting to full liquid diet when my wife has to then after her surgery I'm not eating again for the first week.

I've been reading about the benefits of extended fasting for long COVID. Not very many studies obviously, but seems promising. I'm hoping to get some benefit there.

Was at 186.4 (four pounds above my recent low) yesterday morning as I cheated big time this weekend. 185.4 today. Hopefully 184.4 tomorrow. Not worried about it.

Nice, over 20 pounds down at the 6 week mark. Average of 3.5 pounds per week, over my goal of 3, but still within the range I wanted to see. I am hoping to be at 25 pounds by Oct 12th, the date of my wife's surgery. Then start a 7 day water fast from there, maybe lose another 4-6 during that part. Then transition to a whole foods diet, no processed foods (or very little). I am surprised how many "processed" foods I am still eating doing keto. It is hard to snack, so I have bought a bunch of low carb keto friendly treats and such. Things like parmesan crisps and low carb candy bars and such. Eating a lot of beef sticks and jerky as well. But mostly just meat, cheese, fish, whole fat dairy, bacon, low carb bread, mayo, lots and lots of pickles and olives (filling and tasty and zero to low carb depending on.

Feeling pretty good about stuff so far.

Ok let's compare beginning to the 20 pound week:

1664288203759.png

Weight - 287 to 265.8 (and pant size from 40+ to 38) = down 21.2 lbs
BMI - 38.0 to 35.2 = down 2.8
Body Fat - 40.4% to 36.1% = down 4.3%
Subcutaneous Fat - 34.5% to 30.9% = down 3.6%
Visceral Fat - 20 to 17 (according to my dr this is the really dangerous kind - in and among your organs - high correlation to heart disease and such) = down 3

Pretty happy with the results so far.

Edit:

Oh and my blood pressure is coming down significantly, was steadily in the 135+/80+ -ish range with 40 mg lisinopril to keep it down. I had to drop to 20 mg lisinopril because my blood pressure was bottoming out and I was getting light-headed. So now, as of this morning, on 20 mg lisinopril for the last 4 days, my BP was 128/78. Lowest in a long time. I like that side effect.

Also, 245 would be a great goal by Christmas!
