The Biden Administration and All Things Politics

I truly hope voters keep this in mind over the next 28 days. Want Putin to win? Vote Republican! Don’t want Putin to win? Vote for Democrats. It really is that simple. The right sees Putin as someone to emulate. No doubt in my mind that Putin is going to try to hold out for these midterms. If Repubs retake the House, then aid to Ukraine will end. Then if he can hold out till Trump/DeSantis win in 24, then the game will completely change.

As I’ve been saying…

You can see this coming a mile away. Republicans are going to cut off aid to Ukraine.

This is a really good and optimistic article from one of the best out there. Liberal democracy is imperfect but it’s still far better than the alternatives. Americans need to be willing to fight for it in their own countries.

Wow. That's below the belt. It doesn't hurt them and their rich constituents love it, so they don't give a **** who it hurts. They are bordering on evil at this point. Slippery slope getting steeper.
They’re not being secretive about what they intend to do. Why don’t more voters care?

We live in the "owned on the internet" age, where all that matters is owning the other guy. As long as they can feed the outrage of the base they will continue to be voted in. Soundbites and social media in general are destroying our political system.

A couple of couples in our neighborhood came by over the weekend to visit my wife and bring flowers and such. In this, I had a conversation recently with one of them, retired, who lives primarily on social security, guy and his wife are maybe 70 y.o. It was weird to hear the hypocrisy. He was SO MAD they are looking at cutting SS and medicaid, but in the very same breath said we need to get these libs and their socialism out of our politics and vote Trump back in the whitehouse to fix everything. He could, of course, not recall a single thing Trump did that was good for the country, other than not letting the libs run everything "into the ground", whatever that means, because he could not identify what running it into the ground even means. It was a weird conversation. But it was eye-opening how some people think, and how indoctrinated they are to hate the other guy irrationally. He is a smart dude, we play chess from time to time, and he knows what is going on in the world, very well-read. Retired automotive engineer I believe, masters degree and all. The other weird thing is he has some real liberal views, such as not caring about gay marriage and supporting gay rights, and being pro-choice and such. But he is a staunch republican to the point that no matter what republicans do, he supports it, even as he bitches about it. Weird.

I am sure we all hold some contradictory views, I know I do, but I think this is mainstream now, where it used to be more fringe, to have this almost religious fervor for owning the other guy and not letting the other guy "ruin" the country, even though no one can articulate what that means in terms outside of conspiracy theories. I am genuinely concerned about the future of the country. And I am no longer certain we will see this change any time soon. It has been building for too long, and has too much momentum, even just taken from the standpoint of the division in the legislature that has grown into a true partisan rift in the last 50 years. With the slow dismantling of the New Deal, this will leave a lot of people in lower and fixed income brackets in big trouble. Mind-boggling no one seems to care.

I know we had conversations in the past about the actions of the FBI but I thought this was an interesting story that came out yesterday . I don’t believe the Biden administration had anything to do with this. I would like to find out more details to this story.

He was a former GOP advisor and was writing a book about Biden's withdrawal from Afghanistan. As much as I like to point out the two-tiered and politicized FBI, I don't think Joe Biden would have him killed. Joe Biden isn't Hillary. Until I get more information I'm thinking this could be a publicity stunt to sell more books.

Great find! Moronic takes like that stream of whataboutisms are why democrats deserve to lose this election. They seem to be completely unable to grasp the idea that inflation is about one thing: the value of a dollar. When you create more dollars, the value of dollars drop.

This super simple concept is used in reverse by corporations trying to boost stock prices by using profits to do stock buy-backs. Fewer shares in the market causes the value of the shares remaining in the market to rise.

The coronavirus doesn’t force printing presses to run. The invasion of Ukraine doesn’t force printing presses to run. The giant spending packages passed by democrats are what caused more money to be created out of thin air, and the value of preexisting money to fall.

Inflation is a headwind for the economy, and the raising of interest rates needed to cure this democrat-created nightmare will have dire consequences. It is hard to convey how bad the democrat controlled house, democrat controlled senate, and democrat president have effed up the economy.

When supplies run low, the value of the dollar also drops.
No. That is not how that works. When the supplies run low the value of those supplies rises, but the value of the dollar is unchanged. For example if a dollar could buy a loaf of bread or a widget, then there is a widget shortage, the dollar would still buy a loaf of bread even if the price of a widget spiked up to two dollars.

Inflation is about the value of the dollar which affects the purchase price of both bread and widgets. That is what we are seeing. As far as supply and demand, that is fundamentally what has caused this situation, what democrats seem unable to grasp. The supply of dollars has been too great and caused the value of the dollar to decrease, which in turn is wreaking havoc on the economy. The democrat controlled house, democrat controlled house, and democrat president did that on a party line vote. Signs are pointing toward the American voters letting democrats know how they feel about their decisions to wreck the economy.

Meanwhile the value of the dollar has been rising vs other major currencies...

Some people talk with authority on subjects they clearly don't fully understand. I'm no economist and I don't pretend to be. franklin was a very good source of information on these subjects and he didn't really follow party lines.

Yes the dollar has been on the rise vs other major currencies lately. Part of it is because even as fiscally irresponsible as American Democrats have been, there are other governments that are worse, and part of it is anticipatory. The world knows the Republicans are coming back into power and they are rushing to get in the door now.

Exactly, and when both bread and widgets run low, or are more expensive to produce/transport, etc., the dollar falls against both.
