What's new

Memo traded to NJ

I feel terrible about it for Memo's sake. He wanted to retire here. Yes, it makes financial sense, no he wasn't near the same player, yes he would take minutes from developing players, but damn.

On positive fronts, this is great for Memo. He'll start in Jersey. And if they get AK, Deron has a Morrow/AK/Humphries/Okur starting 5. I'll watch that.

But if we don't make another move, I'll be depressed. The upside is we'll basically split Al/Sap. Although I think those two guys can play much better than they did, pairing Al and Sap with either Favors or Kanter does help the defense. The downside is it doesn't help the offense, and we'll lose more games.

So we now have the New Jersey Jazz (DWill, Memo and Gaines) and the Chicago Jazz (Boozer, Brewer, Korver). At least we denied the Portland merger by stopping Milsap from joinging Matthews.

Looks like Deshawn Stevenson to New Jersey as well

My favorite Memo moment was when we played San Antonio a few years ago. We were down by 20 in the forth quarter when Memo goes crazy behind the three-point line. He makes four in a row and the Jazz pull it out in the last few seconds. I'll miss his shot, but he can't play "D" any more.

Great move. Much needed. Now our young guys can play.

This is a great day in jazz history. Finally the chapter to having a center that doesn't play defense is over. This has to be one of the worst experiments ever. The best qualities for a center should not be shooting threes. The guy thought he was a shooting guard. And he had no hustle in him. He never worked on his body. Which to me means that he didn't care. I was so sick of watching people score on him. Plus the guy was a choker in the playoffs. I don't get the love for memo. He had one lucky stretch.

Anybody can be a chucker. It takes talent, heart, and athleticism to play defense. And you can't win a championship without defense.

So we have what Milsap and Miles as the only Jazz players that were on the team before last year?

I like the deal. It;s good for the Jazz to get anything for Memo, and it's great for Memo to go somewhere he might actually see the floor.

Memo has always been clutch.

-sigh- I agree with everyone who has posted so far. I'm serious, everyone is right. It's sad to see Memo go, it's a good move for the franchise, it'd kinda suck to use this on Kirilinko, Locke is out of his mind if he thinks the fans would accept Andrei for 2 years 13 mil per.

I feel sad right now, but I need to remember that for the good of the Jazz saving 10 million dollars helps the team. The thing is that there may be another move, and, man, it may be .......Kirilinko........ <gasp>

Most idiotic post in at least a week (which is saying something for Jazzfanz.) Take this opportunity to realize you lashed out. Memo was a great player. Not one of the all time greats, obviously, but one of the best shooting big men to ever play the game for sure. I have no problem with the inevitable onslaught of arguments that dealing him was the right move, but don't disrespect the guy. He's way too legit to pretend he was something less than he was.

It's called rebuilding people.

The only person in this thread reacting to this move with any sort of foresight or clarity. I never thought this place could be more unwound than it already was.

I love Memo, but he's over-the-hill and the injury set him back a ton. He's dead weight. This just leaves more minutes for Favors and Kanter, and is one less young and hungry player they have to cut before the season starts.

Phil Johnson didn't have much good to say about AK last night.
Be surprised if Jazz re-sign him.
