Memo traded to NJ

3) The exception stretches 3 months into next season. So perhaps the Jazz might be brought in as a 3rd team involved to facilitate a major deal (such as Howard). KOC can provide salary relief for a team in exchange for a solid vet and draft picks.

The only problem with this is that the exception will count towards the cap next offseason, if it isn't used before then. I think that all but guarantees they'll try to use it to gain an asset this year.

TPEs don't count against the cap.

Maybe you know something I don't, but this sure makes it sound like they do. This is from the last CBA, so maybe something has changed, or maybe I'm missing something.

If a team is below the cap, then their Disabled Player, Bi-Annual, Mid-Level and/or Traded Player exceptions are added to their team salary, and the league treats the team as though they are over the cap.

I hadn't thought of it until reading the last few posts, but the hidden cost of the Memo deal is that KOC sacrificed the offseason FA. That sounds worse than it is. It wasn't actually a sacrifice since the Jazz only have 8 players committed in 2012 for about 49. It means that next offseason he already knows he'd rather just work with his MLE and whatever that new version of the Bi-annual is once the rookie salary(s) are folded in. It also gives him room to extend CJ/Evans/Howard in whatever combo.

With Harris/Sap/Jefferson on the books through 2013, though, we can't be big players in FA, anyway. So KOC has two intriguing possibilities: 1) A team this year desperately wants the cap space for the offseason and finds a way to get us picks/players for the 10 mil; 2) If this year doesn't work out, a team next year does the same for whatever the 2013 crop is. Most significantly, if KOC just lets it expire, he gets Memo's 10 mil in addition to Al/Sap/Harris coming off the books in 2013.

In other words, KOC has created a wealth of options for himself.

Memo made his first declaration today after the trade :

He told that he was really suprised , he didnt expect the trade but this is a business, even the greatest players are traded. Indeed this place will be better for me because i will find more playing time, i have a little bit of shock and a little bit of excitement.

Since i didn't have anything similar to this before, i had different feelings when i heard about the trade first, but now im pretty excited and happy. We made a good start to the year and i hope it continues.
Our first goal is to make the playoffs. But we will try to do our best and finish the season in a good position

Also i am so excited that there are a lot of Turks in new jersey, i expect their support.

His comments about D-Will: Deron told me that he loves Turkey a lot and he wanna visit next summer again. He told me that everyone was so respectful to him and he loved the turkish food a lot. And he told istanbul is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

I watched most of the game yesterday. Memo looked OK. Yeah, he didn't hit a shot; but he didn't shoot much. He ran the floor about as well as he did before the injury and made a couple of nice passes and boxed out well. He'll be fine in NJ.

I watched a little of the Nets game and Memo looked terrible. Can't help rooting for them though with all those ex-Jazz men there.

I'll root for Gaines and Okur.
DWill was a whiny little %^&$# and a coach-killer. Humphries was immature, a narcissist and complete black hole. Fortunately for him, he woke up and turned his career around. Bully for him, but a complete waste as a Jazz player. Can't wait for 7 years for a guy to develop, not unless you want to be really bad.

Oh ****, CJ is entering his 7th year. We're doomed.
