Memo traded to NJ

The only person in this thread reacting to this move with any sort of foresight or clarity. I never thought this place could be more unwound than it already was.

I love Memo, but he's over-the-hill and the injury set him back a ton. He's dead weight. This just leaves more minutes for Favors and Kanter, and is one less young and hungry player they have to cut before the season starts.

Agree with this. Plus they have bigger holes at SF & PG. This gives flexibility to address those needs

I like this.

I would've hoped for maybe a 1st, but the Jazz just saved $10 million that they didn't need to spend really, the other bigs get more time while Memo is assured minutes. A 2nd rounder, keeping your amnesty, AND a trade exception (or maybe it would just be cap room in this scenario?) are nice too.

Everyone wins.

Unless they get a good trade for one of those positions I think it is what they will focus on ib the draft. Two wings expire after this year (Miles, Howard).

Harris-Watson-Tinbsley
Hayward-Burks-Bell
Miles-Howard-Evans
Jefferson-Millsap
Favors-Kanter

Am I forgetting anyone? If not, I'd stay status quo for now, barring a great offer for someone. Bell for a 2nd (and a trade exception?) would be sweet as the next move at some point, though I'd hate to be too thin on the wings. Stockpiling 2nds in a loaded draft wouldn't be such a bad thing.

As a Memo fan it's wierd seeing him traded and agreeing with the trade. He was dominated in the scrimmage by Evans. Seriously it was embarrassing. He was also outplayed by him in the 2nd preseason game. (I missed the 1st one don't know how that went). This is a good deal for the Jazz.

Now if we could just unload Bell for a ham sandwich, I'd be good with the entire team at that point.

Well looks like Kanter and Favors will be getting minutes. Memo didn't really look great, but I'm sad to see him go. I understand the move though.

You rarely get guys in the draft who come in and contribute right away. They could easily acquire a wing this year and still draft another wing.

1st round would have been nice, but no one is going to trade a 1st rounder to overpay for an old 3 point shooter who can't D up.

Guys, we only got a trade exception for Booz and gave up a 2nd rounder in that deal.

In this deal we get a trade exception and a 2nd rounder. And as numberica said we keep our amnesty clause. Love Memo but this is a good deal.

Finally someone agrees with me!

-sigh- I agree with everyone who has posted so far. I'm serious, everyone is right. It's sad to see Memo go, it's a good move for the franchise, it'd kinda suck to use this on Kirilinko, Locke is out of his mind if he thinks the fans would accept Andrei for 2 years 13 mil per.

I feel sad right now, but I need to remember that for the good of the Jazz saving 10 million dollars helps the team. The thing is that there may be another move, and, man, it may be .......Kirilinko........ <gasp>
Locke said a 13 million total contract.

IE 6.5 a year.

I like the move. Good salary-cutting move. You can't pay $10M/year to your 10th man.
Opens up space for Sap, Favors, Kanter, Evans. To be able to trade Okur to clear up the log-jam is the right move.

KOC must have Billy King on speed-dial.

tribjazz Brian T. Smith
Mehmet Okur completely caught off guard by trade.

Where have I heard that before.....
Unfortunately, that's the smart way to run the business. The fewer people know that you're talking, the fewer chances it gets derailed, and the faster the deal can move along (it sounds like that NJ deal came together fast as **** as well).

Thanks Memo, you were an awesome dude.

The Jazz just paid $10 million, losing Wes Matthews, 'gaining' Raja Bell, and LT ramifications for a 2nd round pick.

Well Kanter and Evans both played good last night and I wonder if that had anything to do with the trade.

I also wonder what the next Jazz move is going to be. It can't be Kirelenko, KOC and the Jazz coaches know they overpaid him and won't do so again.

It might be someone else........someone they could use that trade exception for.
Maybe Harris for someone? It's pretty clear Tinsley and Watson outplayed Harris at the point on both pre-season games.
I wonder if there's a starting point guard out there who is unhappy with his team and is worth a ton of money....
