2023 NBA Draft Megathread

I remember 2 years ago when Chad Ford had Mayer as a first round pick, since then (end of his Junior year) he has been getting worse.

Dude is having a terrible year, but he still has that NBA potential just due to his size and relative athletic/shooting ability. Probably not a draftable player, but maybe a guy who could develop into a role player.

Then you see him make this kind of block then absolutely sauce Dillion Mitchell with a filthy step-back 3 and it makes no sense why he has been so mediocre these past two years.

Someone said a few pages back that GG Jackson was a hard prospect to scout, which I really disagree with.

A hard prospect to scout is Emoni Bates. I'm a Bates hater, but damn is he a talented scorer. He does nothing else, but he can play iso ball and get buckets. Will be fun for someone's G-League team. If you can teach him to round out his game, you might have something. Will anyone actually take a chance on him? I wouldn't, but two teams drafted Patrick Baldwin Jr (Warriors) and Peyton Watson (Nuggets) in the first round last draft so anything can happen.

Watching Duke… not sure they like Whitehead… his teammates have looked him off quite a few times. With the weird injuries to some of the key guys I wonder if they struggle to find a groove and end up sinking their stock further than it should go.
that was whitehead's best game, imo. mostly because scheyer stuck with him down the stretch. but i'm still not sure what he does well. pretty good shooter. pretty good athlete. decent ball handler. decent at creating his shot. decent rebounder and passer for his position. but i'm not convinced he's really good at anything.

i would feel better about using a late first on him if he were more efficient. but 44% FGs and 36% 3pt playing against EMU competition just doesn't excite me when you take into account all his other shortcomings.

That is plenty efficient and just because you play in a lower division doesn't magically make top guys more efficient. Efficiency has a lot to do with the offensive system and quality of shots that creates. So far this year Bates has looked great and well worth a late 1st for a team like us.

Honestly, Nick Smith is a hard one for me to predict. I like him, but I think he is a little lower on my list than on most mock drafts.

Only watched him for a few minutes. Just seems super uninvolved. Not sure what to think of him. Kinda Harrison Barnes-y I guess.

How are you guys not seeing Jordan Clarkson with this guy? I think he has more upside but that is his overall skillset.
I was simply going on name as a gag. I am not a big fan of NSJ and yes... I see some JC there.

it's really not plenty efficient for a second year player playing against crappy competition - and yes, the competition does matter.

I wouldn't touch guys like Bates or Baldwin Jr. in the first round. In the second or as undrafted guys... sure. I just think most of those types will either fade away or pop on like their 3rd or 4th team.
