Lauri on the weak side corner spacing when Mike has the ball? Ugh... hopefully not.

I just hope we will FINALLY see Vando + Kessler on court.... cant be that bad... can it?

Jazz are officially the worst team in the league when it comes to defending the paint and controlling the defensive glass. Not great news against a team that starts Mobley and Allen. Cavs are going to get a ton of second chance shots tonight is my guess. Hopefully Kessler can take another step tonight in his development.

Add in Donovan's motivation to play well against his former team and this is going to be a really difficult game. We really needed all hands on deck here. Having Sexton at least would've put more pressure on the basket. KO wouldn't help much defensively but having another big who can hit 3's may have moved someone like Mobley more out to the perimeter. Cavs main weakness is they don't have an NBA caliber SF on their roster. Maybe someone like Beasley can keep them in the game if he has a hot shooting night. Obviously JC and Lauri will also need to have good shooting games in order to win tonight too.

Not all is lost though. This team keeps surprising me but pulling this one out would be a fairly big upset. The Cavs are really good at home this season while the Jazz are 6-10 on the road after that loss in Milwuakee.

Yeah, not getting my hopes up too much. Lauri needs spacing for his curls and cuts to the middle, and all season Olynyk has been one of the few Jazz players providing it. Markkanen facing a set defense ready to collapse on him AND featuring Mobley & Allen as rim protectors sounds like a nightmare for him.

Why would you hope that?
Either to get verification it doesnt work or hope that it might.

If Vando just cannot play 4, then its a flexibility lock between him and Kessler that we need to break (probably by trading V).

I dont like Lauri at 4 as much as I like him at the wing or center. And he has absolutely 0 shot of getting minutes at 5 if we got 2 guys who cant play anything but 5.

Wait... does this make Rudy Gay..... a starter?

The obvious move is to start Kessler. But i know hardy has a rule that vando and kessler cant play together.
In that case i would still start kessler and bring vando off the bench.

Conley, clarkson, beasley, lauri, kessler

Vando can't play the 4. You have to be able to space the floor in that role. Sure he can stand in the corner but his defender will be roaming somewhere else.

I think 3’s are usually better floor spacers than 4’s.

I bet on one of Don or Garland not playing a lot in this one. I think this is the night Levert goes for 35, and the Finnisher looks to prove something against his old team. Would not surprise me if one of the Mobley Allen duo sits this one out also though.

I can't believe he actually said he's thankful to the Mavs. If he hated being on the Jazz so badly that he's glad the Mavs beat us in the first-round last year so that he could be traded, then I'm definitely glad he's gone. No wonder he played so awful in that series, he most likely wasn't even trying.

What a ****ing clown. Dude is so insecure. He can’t keep Utah and the Jazz out of his mouth.

I’m also having a lot more fun watching games now that he’s gone. What a Coincidence!!!

Bummer, pay-wall. What is the gist, and/or can you post a few snippets of comments from the other team mates?

“For me, it’s just understanding, at the end of the day, they’re kind of the reason I’m in Cleveland,” Mitchell said. “They did a great job in the playoff series, so, I’m thankful. I’m here. I’m glad to be here.”

“I don’t really interpret it in any bad way at all. I think when you’re winning and you’re successful, when you have a career year and you’re playing well, you’re having fun,” said point guard Mike Conley. “And I’m sure he had that same fun when we were playing really well, like we all did. So, you know, we’re all having fun now. I think everybody who’s been moving around and in different locations or the same location, we’re all having a good time, we’re all enjoying basketball.”

“I think that ain’t no shot at us. Maybe it was something he just didn’t have fun with. And maybe he just found a new love, a different aspect or a vision of the game,” said Clarkson. “It’s not really, like I said, a shot at us. We had a great time, we just didn’t achieve what I felt like we wanted to in terms of winning the championship. Maybe that’s what he’s talking about [regarding] not having fun. But we loved playing with each other, we loved being on the court, competing for games. We’re all happy [now].”

“From what I experienced last year, it felt like a lot of things were compounding. For Donovan to come here and be here his whole career, you know, I don’t know — maybe he felt like he outgrew some things or some people. It is what it is. It’s the NBA, you know?” Gay said. “He’s going to look back at it and appreciate his time here, just like I will [regarding] this point in my career. It is what it is — everything’s a learning experience. Donovan played well, he played great. I can’t be inside of his head, but he looks good.”

“There was moments we didn’t [enjoy] because we lost, we came up short,” Conley said. “… To have the expectations that we’ve had over the last few years and to not accomplish them, and come up short, we all go home feeling a certain type of way. And then when you come into a new year, you’re just like, ‘Man, I don’t want to feel like that. I don’t want to fail. I don’t want to come up short. I don’t want to let the people down. I don’t want to let the city down. I want to be better.’ And in order to do that, you’ve just got to let go of a lot of things.

“I think he’s happy for us — I talked to him after the game when we beat Golden State,” said Clarkson. “Like I said, I don’t think it’s no shot towards us. But I think for him, I don’t think it was like, ‘Yeah, I’m having fun again; I didn’t have fun here.’ It was one of them things like, ‘Yo, I need something new, a new experience.’ Whatever it was where he just fell in love with the game — having fun, going out there [and] competing every night.”

Class act guys, both Clarkson and Conley.
I'm fairly certain it's been a good move for everyone involved, especially the fans. I just couldn't watch him choke away games again with his selfishness. In Cleveland he has the people to cover his lapses and even seems like they help his awareness on defense and cover his clutch failings by rebounding and making plays outside of him.
The only person I feel sorry for is oneye, he has nothing to post about any more. :)
