Game 1: Utah Jazz @ Los Angeles Lakers, 8:30 p.m MT..Game Thread

Only player in the world outside of the USA maybe.

Im pretty sure Dwight, and even Joakim Noah can handle Gasol pretty good, at least better then Valanciunas.

As flawed as that 06/07 - 09/10 team was, I really miss it and really am starting to think they should have tried harder to keep Boozer and Deron together a while longer. We probably won't see that Williams/Boozer/Okur type of offensive chemistry again for a long, long time. Even though they never went all the way, we had a chance at winning every game because they played as a team. This squad is playing pickup ball.

thanks god we will never see Deron Boozer Okur type defense too, because Kanter and Favors don't suck in defense

No no, Valanciunas is a half God in our beliefs, he is everything that Kanter isn't

Why are you so defensive? He did not say any thing a out kanter or favors specifically. He is simply stating the obvious. The jazz are terrible. As fans we are about to experience some very tough years, and as jazz fans we are not used to it.

You are a kanter fan only so you don't get this and that's fine. Imlooking forward to the rebuild. I just hope koc makes sure that we have the right coaches in place to keep these guys on track with their development and don't develop bad habits.

Why the he## didn't we push the ball on a aging team playing its 3rd game in 3 days? I want to give Corbin a chance ...

AT the end of the first quarter, Corbin's main disappointment was that the Jazz were not running the ball more.

I was only able to watch the game in small pieces.

I was very disappointed in Harris on both sides of the court. If there were times he actually tried to run the offense, I didn't see it. I did see Fisher blow by him (an interesting contrast to Watson later in the game, who stopped a similar attempt).

Kanter did not seem NBA ready, but I could see his effort.

Jefferson didn't seem to box out enough, but otherwise seemed to put in some effort on defense.

Millsap was the only player I was pleased with what I saw.

Anyone who thinks a different coach could have made this a close game is kidding themselves.

You were pleased with Millsap but not a 19 year old rookie playing his first NBA game (despite not being NBA ready according to you) and yet he still grabbed 11 rebounds in less than 21 minutes. Give me a break. He's ready. He just needs to get some confidence on offense and hone his craft.

Well if this season does go to crap at least that will give the Jazz a better chance at landing Harrison Barnes, Jeremy Lamb, Brad Beal, Terrence Ross or one of the other top 10 SG/SFs. Personally I would like to see Gilchrist in a Jazz uni.

Only player in the world who can stand against Gasol is Valanciunas i think

I get your sarcasm, but at least JV was able to score in double figures in all three games vs Gasol brothers even if he is not NBA ready yet.

I was going to stop bringing up Valanciunas ever again because it is annoying, but now that you mention it.......

Yes, this is why I wanted Valanciunias. I wanted a long and tall defender to go up against trees. Even though Jefferson,Favors, and Kanter are big bodied 6'11 beast, they still have issues against 7'1 guys who know how to use their length without fouling.

If Eurobasket performances transferred seamlessly to the NBA, then Darkos performances in 2006 (Including 18 points, 15 rebounds and 3 blocks against Pau Gasol) would definitely transfer over to the NBA. Kids like Bo McCaleb would flourish completely, and become NBA superstars. Maybe AK would actually be- gasp! A second option!!

How about we wait until JV comes to the NBA, and THEN we assess.

How many troublesome 7+ footers are there in the NBA?? All I can think of is Marc Gasol, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bogut, and Dirk Nowitzki. Of the four, the players who'd cause the most offensive-ruckus are Nowitzki and Pau. I mean, there are players like Hibbert, Brook Lopez, and so on, but these are players I definitely wouldn't foresee our players having trouble with.

Yeah, but when you go against those guys, and they are on great team, they potentially neutralize our front court. Also, if you have one of those guys, you are neutralizing the other teams front court and ability to finish at the rim.

Also, Dwight Howard.

Meh, Paul and Al (moreso Paul) destroyed Indiana last season, despite their height. Nets aren't a worry. Mavericks are playing terrible. Only teams that we will have problems with, are Memphis and LA. 2 teams out of 30?? Doesn't justify drafting JV to me. really don think frontcourt height will be a problem for our team going forward, with Favors's reach and Kanter's height. We have a tall team already, no need to sacrifice extra offensive skill for the sake of adding another arbitrary inch that would benefit us over defending against maybe 2-3 teams in the NBA.

And PS, I swear Dwight isn't 7 feet tall. I think he was drafted at 6'9 without shoes, meaning if he did manage to grow, then he might approach 7 feet at the very most.
