Game 1: Utah Jazz @ Los Angeles Lakers, 8:30 p.m MT..Game Thread

Meh, Paul and Al (moreso Paul) destroyed Indiana last season, despite their height. Nets aren't a worry. Mavericks are playing terrible. Only teams that we will have problems with, are Memphis and LA. 2 teams out of 30?? Doesn't justify drafting JV to me.

And PS, I swear Dwight isn't 7 feet tall. He was drafted at 6'10 and change without shoes, meaning if he did manage to grow, then he might approach 7 feet at the very most.

Yeah, he payed the Draft Combine to lie. https://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Enes-Kanter-5168/

So the draft measurements are bogus?? Does this only apply to Kanter, or to all players?

According to Utah’s training camp roster, Kanter measures 6-foot-11 and weighs 259 pounds.

The latter isn’t up for debate. Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin praised Kanter’s muscular build and fearless inside presence, while starting center Al Jefferson said Kanter is already a beast on the offensive glass.

However, questions about Kanter’s height drew a variety of responses from Utah coaches and players.

The issue came to light when seeing the No. 3 overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft stand next to everyone, from 6-foot-6 Alec Burks to 6-foot-11 Mehmet Okur.

Kanter appeared to only be about two to three inches taller than Burks, two inches shorter than Okur and about an inch beneath 6-foot-10 Jefferson.

Kanter measured 6-9.75 without shoes and 6-11.25 with shoes during the draft combine.

“He’s more of a wider body that’s proportioned, so his height is distorted a little bit,” Corbin said.

Jazz manager of player development Michael Sanders estimated Kanter to be 6-foot-9. But Sanders said Kanter should be able to use his strength and width to neutralize an opponent’s height advantage in the paint.

“You tell me he’s 6-9, but he play like 7-5 to me,” Okur said.

Big Al acknowledged he might have an “inch or half inch” on Kanter, but said any height difference is nullified by the rookie’s inside force.

Just wanted to restate somethings others mentioned earlier, the play last night did suck but what made it worse is it happened in LA and even worse is the Jazz could've made LA start 0-3 so that just adds to the disappointment.

wow, that was pathetic

but i think this team have a lot of potential, to bad that Ty is running this team.. this team need a very good coach witch Corbin maybe will be in a couple of years, but not now

1. start Howard - the only one who controlled his movement and decisions on the court
2. bench jefferson, maybe even don't start him a couple of games. Rotate 3 players - kanter, millsap, favours. Ok give Al 10 min ))
3. put tinsley behind harris
4. don't give Bell not just a minute - it's just a waist of time

Go Jazz!!!

Then this, for those wanting Corbin gone and for me in the group that is in the middle and thinks he deserves time to learn I think I can agree with bjunior that we don't know what kind of coach Corbin is he, he may be good he may not but it will take a few years to likely be able to tell. I think that was KOC's plan was to let him learn while this young team learns and they can grow together and hopefully hit their stride together, of course that depends if they coaching staff can develop these players while both are growing into their potential.
I also think when/if he's physically ready wouldn't mind seeing Howard start along side Hayward.

I think if even the Jazz could've gotten a proven coach like Adelman etc.. is it wouldn't like improve this young teams record much if any at all and by the time the team is coming together would the coach stay or leave or retire. So IMO KOC was thinking long term give a young coach a chance and see if he has what it takes, if he does there's a better chance of keeping the HC long term and going back to the stability the Jazz organization is used to.

This may have already been posted...if not here's the 1st-qtr alley-oop from Harris to Favors that occured before the Celtics/Heat game concluded.

Also, I'm not sure why people are still debating about how tall Kanter really is. He doesn't rebound or block shots with his forehead. He measured 6-11 at the combine (perhaps he's closer to 6-10)- but regardless, as I pointed out at the time - it was a "short 6-11." He has exactly the same wingspan as Millsap, (which is also shorter than Boozer's) and overall a shorter wingspan and standing reach than Al Jefferson. As PKM pointed out, he also doesn't possess much lift at the rim.

This is another reason I've been making the Kevin Willis comparison. Willis was a physical center who was notorious for his short arms. Kanter's reach isn't that bad and he'll be plenty big enough against 80% of the 5's in the league - but Gasol (and Bynum) have elite length and there are very few centers who can match up with that. When you worry too much about having elite length, you start spending 1st-round picks on Saer Sene.

You were pleased with Millsap but not a 19 year old rookie playing his first NBA game (despite not being NBA ready according to you) and yet he still grabbed 11 rebounds in less than 21 minutes. Give me a break. He's ready. He just needs to get some confidence on offense and hone his craft.

I saw a kid trying to bang with Gasol, but ultimately not having the strength to do it well. Not many of his rebounds were contested, from what I recall.

I was suprised by some of the strong moves Gasol pulled on Kanter. I am used to im being a finesse player. So basically your complaint is that Kanter is to young to guard Gasol. Great! He will be fine then. As for rebounding he has a good game but it was only 1 game. If he maintains that average then we are talking.
