Go look at where they have drafted since Kobe tore his achilles and then come back and talk to me. They flamed out over and over again and even with Lebron they have been a lotto team multiple times. They are capped out... have no picks... and Lebron is 38. FA is also so much different with extension rules.

You would think with all that lotto action they would have a really good team currently

Having space also gives you flexibility in trades because you don’t have to match salaries

Depends on the protection of course. Ny top 14 protected first that becomes an unprotected first next year may very well be more valuable than a top 4 protected pick that becomes a second in a year we all believe the lakers will suck.
