What's the Next Move?

Remember how nearly every year we had to change point guards? We didn't get stable at the point guard position until we got Conley. Loosing Conley is going to take a long time to get stable again unless we can find a special player. It is going to take a miracle to get that level of play back.

Honestly, It had a lot to do with we spending 5 firsts, 3 of them lottery, one of them top 5, on Exum, Trey Burke, a George Hill rental and Rubio. It was bad management simply put.

Tsai's automatic call queue hold message if you call him now:
"You are **24th** in the queue. Please hold on. I will answer as soon as possible. Approximated waiting time: 2 hours and 30 minutes"

I don't see anything other than multi-year full-on tanking / playing all rookies as a feasible option now.

This summer the Jazz have matching salaries to use only on one major deal, and that's probably including Sexton. The summer after that you'd have to include the guys you've just added as free agents. And the agents for those players will tell their clients that.

So it's consolidating all of the picks to move up, pick loads of players and actually play all the rookies. Because the Jazz are quite limited suddenly with the trades they can do with those picks - unless the rules on salary matching suddenly change.

That scenario also probably means Lauri is out sooner or later.

We already have Sexton and THT combined for 28m next year, a Rudy Gay staying would be another 6m, a Clarkson new contract would come above 10m, whathever If more like 11 a year (quite the discount) or 18 a year (some overpay). If anything, they could keep Olynyk, be at above one max contract space to throw in the offseason instead of near two and have enough to throw at whoever next wanting out star It may be (tho the plan could be open to waiting that till 2025).

All of that while picking top 7 or better this year, with another 2 extra firsts (could draft with both or trade up for a late lottery). I'd say we're in a safe position for a quick turnaround.

Can anyone tell me why we shouldn't trade Lauri ASAP?

Seriously. His trade value will almost certainly never be higher. There's a decent chance he's gonna get moved anyway at some point if/when this tank drags along and he refuses the extension, but... just seems weird. What are we saving him for?

In a few years he'll be too old for any "youth movement" and his value has probably dropped as well due to all the losing.

Just get it over with.

Look I invented the thought of "maybe we should think about trading Lauri" but we will get a high lotto pick this year with him on the roster. His value will be high now and later. If we struggle next year and you sense he won't come back you can kick the tires then. Also, extension rules may change this offseason and we may be able to lock him up.

We have time and you'd hate to get Wemby or Scoot and then not have Lauri to pair with them. We offloaded enough talent to get the pick... now we just need to be patient.

No he won't, he'll be a team leader in his prime. Lauri is an awesome and versatile piece to have in house and to put pieces around.

If some team made an insane offer, sure. But dumping him just to dump him and tank a little harder would be dumb. He's a young piece for the future, and a good one.

Dude stop continuing the overreaction. I'm not a tank fan, never was. You know that. I was hoping we get players, not just picks... or at least good value. We made a trade where we got.... future flexibility (not much in terms of assets, but more in terms of cap/contracts)

Yet I'm not yelling the sky is falling, because it isnt.

For Lauri being devastated and likely leaving... does this look or sound like a guy who is devastated? He understands the business. JC and Kessler took it a lot harder... Kessler for being young and JC for having been around him for 4 years.

Lauri will rally the team back to playing scrappy basketball after this deadline passes... and then we all remember we didn't give away anyone who was ever gonna be a future champion jazzman.

It is possible that Sexton and the Finnisher make it difficult for Danny's obvious blatant tank trade, we just witnessed, to have as much success as he hopes it will. But gm's can force the coach to use g leaguers and rest the others in the name of development to get bad fast. I think this ends up either being a massive joke of a trade, and the Jazz still make the play in even if they lose it they are late lottery, even without those traded away helping the win column, or they rest the Finnisher Kessler etc so much to get a top pick that they barely win 8 more games. Meanwhile the Wolves pick for us probably got worse by subtraction getting rid of Dlo but they also got better adding a much smarter floor general to feed the post that has been getting the shaft all season there.

It's not that at all. I'm just looking for some logic.

To me, it looks like we're gonna be wasting Lauri's value one way or another. We're wasting his on-court value by intentionally fielding a team that sucks, and wasting his off-court value by not selling high on him. Seeing as he's been one of the best overall assets in the League this season, it strikes me as dumb and illogical.

This is exactly why teams generally sell off useful vets like Lauri when starting a tank.

I give that about a 1.5/10 in terms of things that will actually happen.
