Babe wakeup... new Vecenie mock just dropped... highlights

Jarace up to #5 in Orlando

Black up to 7 with Washington... Vecenie shares my basically exact thoughts...

At the end of the day, I just buy Black being an impact player at the next level because of the way he impacts the game. He’s a monster defender both at the point of attack and as a switchable player up and down the lineup. Offensively, he puts pressure on the rim at a high level because of how quickly he can get downhill. But moreover, all of this is paired with terrific processing speed. He reads and reacts to what’s happening at a super high level. You see this most in his passing ability, when he hits the right guy almost every time while on the move. It’s not an accident that Arkansas is 15 points per 100 possessions better when Black is on the court versus when he’s off it per Pivot Analysis, and he’s the only player on Arkansas with whom the team is better both on offense and defense when he’s on the court. He makes his teammates better, and his presence helps his team. Teams are coming around on Black for these reasons, but he’ll need to prove that his shot isn’t entirely broken during the pre-draft process. The mechanics don’t look awesome, but he doesn’t seem to have bad touch. He’ll just need to show he can make improvement there, and he’ll go in the top 10.

Jazz take Rupert at 13... not a fan...

Jalen Hood Schifino goes at 14... the highest I've seen him.

Jazz take Kris Murray at 16... with Sensabaugh, Hendo, Hawkins, Lewis, Whitehead, GG (I hate GG but would understand the pick at least) on the board... I would literally throw up if this happened.

Dereck Lively at 26... Filipowski on the board still. I actually am cool taking a center there as I think Lively has upside and is an elite rim protector. If we had Robert Williams backing up Kessler that's okay by me. Would like be happier to see Terquavion Smith or Leonard Miller here.

I think in real life, Keyonte George is going to get taken before Anthony Black. I'd be surprised if Black goes in the top 8, and I'd be very surprised if Keyonte doesn't.

Rupert has been a limited shooter and scorer to this stage, but has the profile of a 3D wing. I don't think he gets in the lottery, but could go late teens/early 20s. I'd be surprised if Hood-Schifino goes near the lottery.

The appeal of Lively is his paint defense combined with the potential to shoot from deep. So he'd give us a stretchier guy if the Jazz don't think Kessler will eventually shoot the ball. The Jazz have to decide just what type of players they want at the 1 and the 5. I could see them take Lively if he's really there with the Philly pick. That would have to be considered good value in a vaccuum.

Bruh the appeal of Lively is 7'8 wingspan with high athleticism. He'll be the most athletic long player in the NBA (well next to Wemby). No one going to draft him with the hopes he starts shooting.

I think Clowney is the guy you take late that you hope continues to progress his already decent shot from 3, with being massively young, long and athletic.

It will be eye of the beholder in the mid to late lotto. I can see teams not loving George as a tweener who does nothing well. He would create some lineup inflexibility whereas Black I think opens up a lot of lineup flexibility. If the shot comes around Black is a monster imo. If Keyonte can be a full time point guard then I think he has a higher upside. Both are solidly in play after like pick #6.

I think he deserves a mid first/late lottery grade. He's this year's Sochan IMO. You can tell by the way he moves he is a great athlete, and he plays hard. Shooting percentages are bad from 3 and FT, but he has great touch around the basket. I think he has a low floor and good upside if he figures outt he shooting.

Haven't watched enough there... is he a good vertical athlete. On the highlights I watched I saw too many layups and not enough dunks... only watched a little though. The stroke looked pretty good.

really good vertical athlete. good stroke despite the subpar 3pt%. i like the comparison to sochan in terms of a guy who wasn't overly productive as a frosh, but has excellent physical and athletic traits and a shot you can work with. nice thing about clowney is you can probably get him late first/early second. if he even declares.

Bilal's numbers (and film from what I've seen) are impressive enough that I think he goes lottery.

Someone I hadn't notice until now, Wemby's teammate Bilal Coulibaly. Very impressive numbers for being so young.

He looks like he is wearing his dad's shoes... not that he is slow... just that he looks like his feet are huge for some reason.

Who have been some of the biggest disappointments this year?

Arthur Kaluma, Dillon Mitchell and Dariq Whitehead are the first couple that come to mind.

Nick Smith for me (though some people still have him in the lottery) and Kelel Ware. I'll say Baba Miller so far too. He's got significant potential as a defender, but he's just not looked ready yet.

I think NSJ gonna get one of those medical red flags in the pre-draft and fall further than he probably should. I wonder if he's playing through something right now because he's too afraid of what a surgery or something would do to his draft stock. He's had a weird year.

Haha I noticed the same thing. He's 6'7 with a reported 7'3 wingpsan. Could still be growing as he is not 19 yet.

I'm going to envoke the rule of Benedict Mathurin. If he's 6'6+, athletic, plays hard, and doesn't suck at basketball you should probably just draft him.

Okay... I felt like I might have been crazy. If the feet are that big he will grow... if he is playing with shoes that are 3-4 sizes too big then he is faster than the video shows.

I think he's just a local kid who wants to play for Arkansas

What do you guys consider the cut off for 'we got an elite type prospect'. Let's take Scoot and Victor of the board, so #3-#? how many players get you saying 'Jazz did enough tanking to get a pick good enough that we potentially got an awesome player.

I don't know anything, but starting to recognize names and definitely know the type of player I'm looking for. So I could definitely get excited about Black for example. He's #10 on Tankathon. #3-#10
Thompson
Miller
Thompson
Smith Jr.
Walker
George
Whitmore
Black

With #11 being Gradey Dick. Dick would definitely feel like a tier below the kind of prospect I'd want (I don't know anything). Back to the original question, how many of those dudes get you hyped about being our top pick? Is it just Miller or a Thompson twin? Are there dudes you would add to the list? How close does this board lineup with your own?

What? Is Cade not awesome? And isn't Black good on defense? So Cade on offense with good defense upside? Cade was putting up 20/6/6...
Jerrace Walker could be added. Monster defender who seems to be finding his offense.

Definitely miller I have him as my #2 prospect

I am not as high on the twins as most are. Love the athletism but am concerned about shooting.

Couple thing I worry about when it comes to prospects.

- Lacks shooting
- doesn't play a lot of defense
- hot and cold motor
- low basketball IQ

These things have sunk a lot of careers. The defense can be worked around but I want the jazz to be a monster defensive team. I am tired of no perimeter defense.
