Korver signs with Bulls! (3 yrs/15 mil)

Stop calling the 7th largest city in the U.S. a small market please.

As even keel as I am about these things, it is kind of frustrating to see players sign elsewhere while the Jazz have had zero transactions.

The worst thing is that the Jazz need to do absolutely nothing to satisfy minimum roster requirements. Match any offer on Matthews and Fesenko, and with Gaines, Jeffers and Evans, that's 13 right there.

Should that be the case...

Williams/Price/Gaines
Matthews/Hayward
Miles/AK/Jeffers
Millsap/Koufos
Okur/Fesenko.

Color me "meh."

I think Korver was underappreciated and misused. Contrary to popular belief, he was a better defending wing than CJ, Ronnie, Harpring and Andrei. It's a pretty good price for him, but I'm not sure what the front office is waiting for (someone to fall on our lap for free?)
In this case, the notion of Korver being a better defender than your list of players is "contrary to popular belief" because it's WRONG. There's no way that KK1 is a better defender than any of those players. That's partly why he didn't start.

The Jazz's season turned around 2 years ago when Korver joined the team. He alone helped create spacing in our offensive sets, while not giving up much on defense. He hit some big shots in the playoffs too. I'm not sure exactly what the Jazz are thinking, but clearly they are divesting of players that had a real impact last season. It puts us in somewhat of a rebuilding mode, seeing if we can further develop Miles, Matthews, Millsap, Fess and Koufos. I think the Jazz clearly want to get younger and cheaper in general, but are still on the lookout for a high-impact player that can be had. The Jazz don't seem to be putting up much of a fight in free agency. We'll see if they match something on Matthews.

All that means is that San Antonio has widely drawn city boundaries. TV markets, which are determined by the spread of population and not political boundaries, draw money. Dallas's metropolitan area, for example, includes Fort Worth and Arlington for a total of 6.5 mm instead of the 1.3 mm in Dallas Proper. San Antonio does have a very small TV market relative to most teams.

Williams . . . Rose
Miles . . . . . Korver
AK . . . . . . Deng
Boozer . . . . Boozer
Okur . . . . . Noah

Which group is better? What is chicago's bench. The thought that they are instant contenders, yet we here assume the Jazz couldn't win... so it is simply the roadblock called Lakers?

Next year seems to be slim pickings compared to this year.
But Jazz could resign Stephenson, Humphries, and Mo Williams for starters.

People get the idea that Brewer and Kirilenko are superior defenders because they are athletic and get their hands into passing lanes. The only thing they fail to remember is that defense is also played man-to-man, which neither of those guys are able to stay in front of their man. Away from the ball, they also don't stick with their man too well (especially Andrei). Korver stays tight with his man, which goes unnoticed not only by the box score, but also by the fans because they never have their attention drawn to it since the tighter you play your man away from the ball, the less likely that man ever gets the ball.

Looks like Sloan will have to play Gordan this year. Deron please don't get to mad this year and demand a trade, just because the Jazz FO is not making any moves and all of your "boys" are leaving town. KK will be missed, more than people miss and I am not talking about the 12-24yr old girls.

Korver was good player, but i'd rather have Mathews in the game. His D was not as good as any other wing we had but his hustle often better (not better than Wes) so it appeared good. His shooting was better. If CJ can hit the curl and add just a little more consistency to his 3pter, then he serves that role. We'll have to see if Hayward can step in at 92% on FT's... (and be good enough to play) Korver is good but not the exact fit here for a team that's... well... you know... going in a different direction... it's not you really, it's me. I just need some time by myself to get stuff straightend out... I thought i was ready to commit; but I guess i'm not ready right now (not with you anyway.) So let's be friends during this cooling-off period? You good with that? Maybe I'll see you around - you know when i get some cap space and... well, when I've got a good core that just needs one more piece. Bye.

Korver was never great one on one defensively. Got beat regularly enough. I'm saddened by his departure. The one thing he had over the other Jazz wings was, with the possible exception of AK, that he was a superior rebounder from the wing position. Miles is horrible at rebounding, and Matthews hasn't stood out.

Wow, it seems like just yesterday he was being offered a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Thanks for bringing the 3 to Utah Kyle!

What? The reason Korver is gone is because we let him go. He certainly didn't 'bolt'. Unless you're making reference to the fact that Miami and LA are so stacked that we may as well roll over.

It's a clear choice: Korver or Matthews. Because Matthews wasn't a draft pick, we're forced to use all or part of the MLE to match an offer to him. Re-sign Korver and all Portland, or whatever other team wants Matthews has to do is offer Wesley the MLE -Korver's salary + $1.00 and we couldn't do a thing.

Matthews >>>> Korver. It was a no-brainer by KOC.

I don;t know why everyone has their panties in a wad. We got Korver for two things: hit a 3 and make FT's in the 4th quarter. Yes, he was good for a couple of 3's per game. Big freakin' deal. Let's have CJ, Matthews or Hayward take a couple of 15-ft jumpers. Oh well, we lost 2 points. Personally, I was pissed at the end of the season because it looked like he was protecting the record, passing up some good looks when we needed his scoring. And his FT percentage dropped 10%. If we need to protect a lead, Deron, Hayward, CJ and Matthews have all showed they can hit FT's. And it appears Gordon can be a better ball-handler than Kyle.

Who doesn't think Hayward can average 7 pts in 18 mins with 2 rbds, 2 assists and .5 steals? Kyle's career FG average is only 43%. I'm pretty confident Gordon can be better overall than Korver. No, he doesn't have the 3-pt shooting range Korver has. But he'll be a much better overall player.

There are simply no minutes for Kyle:

PF - Millsap (33); AK (15)
SF - AK (17); CJ (16); Hayward (15)
SG - Matthews (32); CJ (16)
