Game 4: The Streak: Utah Jazz @ San Antonio Spurs (12/31/11, 6:30pm MST)

Corbin will surely have a good hard think about reducing bells minutes. Hayward Played bad as well but he needs to develop, whereas bell is fully cooked! Altho it is junk time etc u can't help but be impressed by burks dribbling and penetration skills, something seriously missing from the jazz at the moment!

what do you blame jefferson for??

70% of the time he's getting the ball in an iso play called for him, where the pg or hayward gives him the ball and everyone clears out and says: do something big guy. considering that, he plays fantastic. also you can see that these possesion take a lot out of his tank, but they keep relying on him scoring in the post against double teams for long stretches. in these stupid iso plays he MAYBE has one option to pass to.

30% of the time he gets the ball in good situations and takes OK shots.

i don't like his fallaway hooks and push shots though. in the second game he played his *** off on defense(took 2 charges plus some failed attempts).

the only one to be blamed is the one who is calling the plays.

burks should get his 18 minutes per game as well as kanter. less is nothing i can understand. bell should never see the floor again and i don't think that hayward should start right now, but we don't have many oportunities.

we should try this:

tinsley-harris-watson-burks
hayward-harris-burks
howard-hayward-millsap
jefferson-millsap-kanter
favors-kanter

More on the flex: It's designed to get low post looks off all the baseline screens. I can remember once or twice in 3 games where that has happened. The lesson is not that it can't work, but that we don't have the guys for it. What we're seeing is A) no entry passes in the paint and B) guys taking 15 foot jumpshots when we don't have great jumpshooters.

And there's no deviation from this. It KILLS me we don't have plays for the last 10-14. We just keep running the same O.

We are just too young.

We need to make a trade, too much youth.

Organization seems committed to: Favors, Hayward
Other: Kantor, Burks, Evans

Plus we have draft picks coming , plus more youth due to this year probable poor finish.

By the time we get good, we will not be able to afford the people we commit to.

I LOVE Favors game, start him NOW.

Hayward - This may sound strange but I almost see him as a Rondo type player. He has great vision, great passing , shares the ball.
Worst case he can be valuable that way. I would stay committed to him.

I like it that Ty made the starters play the 4th. Used it as a practice basically. I just wish Favors were there.

My starters after 4 games (and I would commit to them would be: Harris, Hayward, Howard, Milsap , Favors.

End of sentence, good or bad, give them the year.

We can't be yanking starters after a few bad games otherwise we will make everyone on the team feel like the leash is too short.....

I'm going to have to cut and paste this post: It's freaking criminal how little we run PnR. We waste 18 seconds of every clock trying to run our motion offense. But when we ran the PnR tonight, we actually got shots out of it. And our guards, particularly Hayward, were built for the PnR. I don't know why this isn't being talked about.

There are a lot of negatives about this game, but I come away with a few positives:

Kanter showed me a few things that get me excited about his future.

Burks still deserves to get some real minutes before the outcome is decided so the local radio hacks/experts cannot just claim Burks' performance is meaningless because it's garbage time.

Howard should start at the 3 and Hayward should play the 2 despite his poor shooting tonight.

Hopefully this outcome will stop udflyer from thinking his gamethreads are some sort of good luck charm.

I'm really wondering if Ty understands that Howard is a disaster in the making. It will be hilarious if he decides to bench Bell and start Howard. Howard isn't remotely trying to play team basketball. Every single time he gets the ball in his hands he's looking to shoot. On the flip side, he could help us this year on the second unit. And he does play both ends which is nice. But it's more and more clear that Howard is playing for a contract, not the Jazz.

As horrible as Hayward's night was, he was actually very good on drives. Hayward's learning curve at this point is to start taking some of those drives up rather than always looking for the pass. He makes good passes, but he has to go up.

No more threads for me ... going back to the hole......:(

I couldn't watch tonight. What happened to the Favors & Hayward pick n roll? Is was supposed to be working last night, why not go back to it?

The flex thing is supposed to be so simple, why is it that so many players have a hard time running it?

FYI - Here is an old diagram & walk through of Sloan's flex, I haven't seen enough of Ty's offense to see if it is the same flex.

And that's ok IF KOC trades him at the deadline for an asset. Howard could be a pretty good chip for a contender. In this draft, trade him for a late 1st. With perhaps 2 lottery picks and a late 1st, maybe KOC could trade up into the top-3. Favors could still develop, but right now, it looks like Utah has some solid young talent, but no potential all-stars. Our ceiling might be slightly over .500 in a couple of years - unless KOC can get a real impact wing and PG.

Agreed, learning experience for Hayward.

I do like that he kept shooting. Last year he would just stop,

He never launches a ton of shots anyway so a bad shooting nite from him is not the same as others.

He led in assists again with 4 (easily could have had 8).

I see many double / doubles with him (pts/assists)

I wish we would run more plays through him. He sees the court well. He also seems to pass better inside to Favors over Al.

Howard must had seen that CJ was the designated chucker on the team and is now trying to usurp his role.

Well Dish networked screwed up my dvr tonight by not starting the game. However, it sounds like I didn't miss much
