Roster Building From Here - FA and Summer of 2023

It's not that much of a stretch. It's DA going after 3 small scoring/ball dominant guards in a relatively short stretch. I've seen people make a lot bigger stretches over DA's preferred player type.
IT was traded for Kyrie. Kyrie and Kemba were both disasters with Boston. Taking those three examples and extrapolating that he'd like/want Trae Young is absolutely a stretch imo. But your last sentence is well taken.

I’m mostly saying I wouldn’t. Because I wouldn’t. And if I were to backtrack, I would only do so under the idea of flipping him.

If you could situate him to be the one of the greatest 6th men of all time, that might be another. But none of these scenarios exist in reality so it’s all whatever.

Not taking Trae Young for free is like not taking 4 draft picks for free.

Which is why, backtrack or not, it is an insane opinion to have in the first place.
But if you could get him for free, you wouldn’t be able to get the picks (the Hawks would trade him for the picks).

This has become inane. But in any event you can’t talk me into wanting that garbage on my team.

IDK how IT/Kyrie being involved in the same trade negates anything or the fact that Kemba fell off. The point is just that being a small scoring guard isnt necessarily a turn off (or at least not to the degree of DO NOT TOUCH) for DA. That's pretty clear to me.

I totally reject this idea that any player we get has to be a perfect match long term. If we got Trae for free, it's an imperfect match and I'm not sure there is a perfect match for him. But he would make us a lot better instantly. If it turns out we can't build a championship team with him, you can always pivot and trade him down the line. The Jazz just traded two imperfect stars and a got a boatload in both trades.

Most important thing right now is not to try to make the picture perfect team that will stick together for years. It's to continue to make asset positive moves. Trae for free (which is a ridiculous thought in the first place) is a massive asset positive trade.

Listening to the exit interviews for players, Simone said his ankle was ****ed up for a lot of the season and he was disappointed with how he shot.

Said he has to adjust to the athleticism of defense on how he shoots.

Feel like he could be really good next year.

Trae not even available for reals though. This “report” is they can trade anyone including Trae. Won’t be any discount and in fact would likely need to blow em away a bit or you won’t get him.

I don't really see the Squawks trading Trae. If I'm Utah, I'm seeing if I can pick off some of their younger talent for relatively cheap. If Trae's "available", they're ready for a rebuild/retool.

Since we started rebuilding, guys like Locke and Tony Jones have talked a lot about how the Jazz want positional size and length in the starting lineup. I have a hard time seeing them spending a bunch of assets to trade for 6'1 Trae Young.

Sure, everyone wants that, but that doesnt mean they will only take tall/long players.

I would agree... its just Danny though. I really think he chases value... and if that value comes as FVV or Dame... then so be it.

I also think our local guys can trust their sources a bit too much at times. I think with Ainge he is opportunistic so almost nothing would surprise me... so any of us kinda thinking we have a read on what his plans are might be surprised... cuz I'm not sure Danny has a specific plan... more a direction and he takes paths as they appear.

All of this. I have never understood that thinking anyways… if the guy can hoop he can hoop.

Yeah...Ainge is definitely unpredictable. I would hope that we'll be a little bit patient and don't just blow a bunch of assets on the first star that becomes available.

I think its a nice attribute to target (length) but you really have to chase the opportunities. Trae isn't it for me... in part because the price wouldn't be nearly as reasonable as some might think.

that is his other attribute. I have heard Russillo on his pod just say that Ainge is the most patient guy in the room (talking negotiating room). I don't think he forces something. I could see him ponying up for Dejonte Murray or OG without assurance they will re-sign and being comfortable we can get something done. I don't see a bigger target materializing but DA will be in on every call. So if there is something good out there he has the means to strike... and he will know about it.
