2023 NBA Draft Megathread

I think I'm neutral on him. He's a pretty safe pick IMO in that I think his scoring is going to translate pretty easily. The No Ceilings dudes do bring up a good point that it's pretty rare to have a freshman who is both an elite scorer and an elite shooter at a young age.

He does seem to have some knee concerns though as I read that he had a knee injury that made him miss his entire junior season with multiple surgeries and he missed the end of hte season with a knee injury this year.
Which also is a physical limitation on playing defense. And he has no ****ing clue how to play team defense.

I’m all the way good on not drafting him at all.

I thought we hated Brice?

He has an NBA body, he has an argument for being the best shooter and the best self-created scorer in the draft, and he's only 19. I could see a team draft him in the late lottery. He doesn't move the ball much and doesn't know what he's doing on defense, but both of those things can be taught. Offensively, he has sequences that look like a young Paul Pierce or a young Joe Johnson.

Maybe we are just overthinking Brice being a bad defender as a Freshman on a young OSU team (started 4 freshman for a lot of the season).

If I told you the Jazz could get an elite shooter, elite scorer, 7' wingspan, big body, and 19 years old at the 9th pick who would be mad?

Malaki Branham, who had similar strengths/weaknesses to Brice, went 20th last year. I think it's safe to say Brice is a better overall prospect than Branham due to better overall numbers and size/length.

Here was a quote from Brice about his defense mid-season:
“Just being more active and attentive,” Sensabaugh said of his defensive growth. “I’ve been listening a lot and learning and watching film and fixing little details and practicing really hard on my defense to improve in that area to stay on the court, not only for the offensive side of the ball but to make defensive impacts — that sort of thing wins games.”

If he can’t play defense, especially because he had bad knees? Yes, I would be upset because those are major red flags.

I appreciate the discussion and the reevaluation but I am good.

I still think Gradey Dick is a perfectly reasonable pick at #9 if no one more prominent slips. He's got a nice combination of size, shooting, IQ and competitiveness that can't be taught. His energy/motor is a bit underrated. He may not be a world beater, but he's going to be a solid NBA player. He just needs to add strength. David Locke also pointed out that he was successful running pick-and-rolls, which would complement our bigs.

He's probably the guy in this draft that Kevin O'Connor (former Jazz GM) would have drafted and compared to a can of soup.

Well none of us our doctors with access to medical records/history, so I have no idea. There are dozens and dozens of NBA players who have had knee surgeries and havent had their careers impacted moving forward.

The conclusion is No Ceilings sucks. Brice at 9 is horrendous.
Yeah, they’re a hype mill more than anything. Their videos don’t really even show weaknesses on prospects. I think it’s a conscious decision to curry favor and to grow that way.

I’ll peep it because I’m a junkie and need a fix but they also are take artists to ginny up attention, I’m pretty sure.

They also have Anthony Black at 15 which is comedy.

If I'm being honest, that's in the range I have AB. I'm giving Black the nod over Sidy Cissoko due to Black's ability to initiate. Otherwise, I see them as similar athletic, defensive-minded 2/3s.

If Black can't make shots and defenders back off him, I don't think teams will want to put the ball in his hands.

Black is a top-10 lock.
How is he a top 10 lock when he makes no sense for the Mavericks? If he falls past Utah, why would Dallas take him? Does Dallas want a non floor spacer development project next to Luka? This is what could potentially happen when we are talking about the jump Hendricks has made into the top 10.

ANd then if he falls past 10, why is Orlando taking him? They want another questionable shooting guard prospect to pair with Fultz and Suggs?

And then it's OKC. Does OKC want him when they have Giddey/SGA?

Then you got Toronto. They could potentially be a Black team, but maybe Toronto wants to reach on extreme potential in Bilal or GG Jackson. Or maybe they stick with their roster and are looking more towards immediate help and want a shooter like a Hawkins/Jett Howard.

Then you get to teams like New Orleans/Atlanta who are going to be drafting more for need than most other teams as they are trying to break into contender status.

Black is a top-10 lock.

The possibility of a team reaching for Black is about the only way someone else in the top 8 is going to fall to the Jazz, so I'm all for it. I want to see if the Magic will reach for Black or Wallace. Orlando could end up at #7 or #8 after the lottery.
