Jimmer! making NAOS cry now

We need a Jimmer update.

Jimmer scored 17 tonight on 6-12 shooting, 4-6 from 3. He only had 3 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1 turnover.
The weird thing it, it looks like he is actually trying on defense.
I would say he is now looking like an average defender.
He gets beat here and there, but as often he is stopping his guy, and switching, and he's attempting to get in the passing lanes shown by his 3 steals in the last 2 games.

Anyways, his shot is starting to look good, and the other teams are paying if they give him a few feet when defending him. They always stay on him when he's close to the 3pt line, and hesitate to double down low if it's his defender because they don't want to leave him.

His passing for the most part looks good, and he is making passes that only his teammates can get. I bet if the Kings offense was set up differently he would get more assists. The high assist man on the team is Evans and he is at 2.8. Jimmer is tied with him at 2.8, with much less ball time.

I let you all know this, because I know you care deeply.
Yes, even you LogGrad.

I watch some of this game and it seemed like the Kings didn't pass the ball to Jimmer so he could setup the offense. It was kinda strange.

Anyways, his shot is starting to look good

Thanks for an excellent summary, but I thought you said it's an update.

Good he's trying on defense. He still looks lost to me but I've only seen highlights and limited minutes.

If a good coach gets a hold of him then they're going to have to build The Jimmer Defense to counter The Jimmer Offense. Sticking a guy 30 feet out would change everything completely.

I noticed that too. Some of the starters only pass to him when they have to. Cousins especially would not pass to him for the outlet off of a rebound. He would wait for another guard to get open, and would pass it to him instead. There are some issues in that locker room, and it will get worse before it gets better.

He is in the wrong spots here and there, and he seems afraid to really go after the bigger guys when he's down their direction. I've seen a big improvement defensively the last 2-3 games. I've seen his guys try to drive on him, and get stopped, then pass out. I have also seen guys juke him and because he's trying so hard he cuts that way, then they go the opposite direction and he can't get back quickly. This forces his teammates to switch and stop his man until he can get back. He's still a raw rookie, but I also see quite a bit of improvement, which is what I like to see in any player.

Even on shots his man hits he's making an effort to get to them, and has a hand in the face. How often in college did he really get a hand in the face of someone shooting over him?

What, did Jimmer sneeze? Holy hell man get on it, make a new thread.

Every one of your points needs a thread of its own.

Where is the Jimmer forum? Dammit people get on the stick!

That said, nice summary. Good to see he is progressing nicely. Always good to root for the Utah connections.

I'll keep you posted on his game tonight, and the next time he blows his nose.
You're welcome in advance.

Here's your update.
Jimmer stunk it up tonight on both ends.
He had a few good plays here and there, but they in no way made up for all of the missed shots and assignments.

I did lol when he was angry and talking to himself when he was pulled close to the end of the first half. He threw down his towel in anger. It looked like it was one of two things, or both... he couldn't buy a shot, and the Kings players are waaaaaaay selfish and will not pass. He drives and looks for a player to dump it off to, and they are all standing around watching. Gonna be a rough year.

Looks like Keith Smart might be tightening the rotation a bit. Jimmer recorded his lowest minutes played in a game this season tonight, and probably rightfully so. I have only seen one game this year(the first one), but shooting .367 in the NBA isn't going to get it done. I really don't see how he can play well without being a ball dominant PG. Playing with the Tyreke/Thorton combo is not going to work for him.

He's definitely not shooting it well.
He has the open looks, but is just not knocking them down.
It can take time, but I don't think he has time when it comes to his shooting.
He was drafted for his shooting.

The coaching change will be huge for Jimmer, and not in a good way.

If you study Jimmer's shot, he depends more on the drive in his legs than most jump shooters. He's obviously never had to play this much basketball at this skill level with the condensed schedule. I'm sure it's killing his mechanics.

Great observation.

This is how the best shooters shoot, so I'd like to think it's something that can be overcome. Look at guys like Reggie and Ray Allen and their conditioning regiments. Maybe that's what it will take Jimmer to be able to be a legit leg shooter.

2-7 tonight in his start. They need to trade Reke, not because Jimmer is better or anything, but just because he is not a guy you can build around.

Its a long season, but, oddly enough, Jimmers Offensive Rating and Defensive Rating from basketballreference pretty much matches adam morrison's rookie year
