2023 NBA Draft Megathread

2 point guards?

How is that awesome?

When you box them into both being PG’s I could understand how you would think it’s not awesome.

What I see is two 6’6+ players with playmaking and defensive upside. Can never have enough of those guys.

We need as many playmakers as we can get.

My Sexton hate has dialed back a decent amount. I think he is pretty good at what he does for what he is. I would be interested to see him as a starting PG to see how he does. IT was a bummer he got injured when he would have had a really easy post-lottery schedule to practice.

All that being said, every single thing we've heard has been Utah wants a PG and does not view Sexton as such.
I’m a fan of Sexton, but I’m pretty sure the Jazz don’t see him as a PG and are planning to trade him at some point this year. If they really want to move up for a guy like Cam Whitmore, I could easily see him being a part of that trade package to make it happen. . . which would likely pave the way for JC to come back on an extended contract.

Im fine with going point guard over big wing if there is a steph curry type point guard. A devin booker type point guard. A luka doncic type point guard. But if we are drafting more of a ricky rubio type point guard then no thanks. I dont want a floor general. I dont want a defensive stopper. If im prioritizing drafting a point guard then I want a dynamic one on the offensive end too.

I don’t really agree at all. We need someone who can set up Lauri and Walker. I don’t know how you can say you don’t want a defensive stopper after the defense we’ve had on the perimeter over the last few years.

Please, please let Ausur drop!!!!! If am at 9 and I had to choose between Bilal and Ausur. I would go with Bilal. But if the Jazz were in that scenario, then I hope..hope..that they could find a way to get the 10th pick.

If that happened and the Jazz "could" trade for 10 then, it would be - Ausur (Our PG of the future), Bilal (Our future Kwahid), GG (who knows but why not?!!! The Bulls had Rodman.) in my dream draft...lol. That's totally bonkers and insane if that happened. Wow!!!!!!!!

THT/Dunn/Ausur
Clarkson/Ochai/Bilal
Markkannen/Fonztechio
KO/Gay/GG
Kessler/Jones/Dok

Let the insanity happen!!!! WOW!!!!

Would likely lose Sexton, the 16th pick and gain Bertans. But that is not that expensive at all. Three superhcharged athletes who can play different roles. One can be a PG in Ausur. And we would have all those picks to for trades and building up. That team would probably lose alot next year with no Conley, unless Dunn reaches another level of suave or Ausur does something. But the next year...wow!

One thing I’m sure @Elizah Huge has thought of as the driver of the Anthony Black bus… the Black Sexton backcourt could be something that works as Black can bring the passing and defense to supplement Collins deficiencies. Anthony would need to be solid as a spot up shooter and I think Collin would need to be better as a pull-up shooter for it to be dynamic. But that arrangement might work whether they are starting or Sexton is coming off the bench.

Why would DAL take Black when the have Luka?
because he can defend multiple positions, handle, pass - those guys are always valuable. would also help if he could knock down open shots, but the ability to defend multiple positions, defend well and make guys better is no joke.

The reports are now that Kyrie is likely to stay with Dallas as they are going to be willing to offer him more money and years than anyone else.

They aren't drafting Anthony Black, and if you're a Black stan you should hate the idea of Dallas drafting him because they are just going to turn him into another Josh Green.

Black/JHS would give you huge guard playmakers who are both locked in on D and high IQ. Lewis gives you that length/athleticism/shooting combo on the wing.

Either one of Black/JHS would emerge as the better primary handler option, or they both are equals and they share the floor together.

The Jazz need an overall boost to their defense/passing/IQ profile, and Black/JHS would give you a lot of potential growth in that area.
I see no point in drafting two playmakers despite good size at the pg position, when neither provide spacing on or off ball. ( I don't see AB as a pg at all)
You can get athlete's with playmaking skill on the wing that can't shoot, later in the draft for a lot cheaper.
There is no problem with having these types of defenders and ball movers available, I don't disagree with that. What I have a problem with is essentially wasting lottery picks on these types of "role players"
We need to find a stud 1st option level scorer at 9 or trade up for one. Maybe we have to trade out to get one. But even if we roll with the Finnisher as that guy, expecting high level playmakers/defenders around him to be the mantra, anytime he fails we fail, won't work unless he proves to be an MVP level player in the next couple seasons. Is he? I don't think so.
He needs a Batman or at minimum another Robin to team up with him.

Rafael said Klimtman stopped doing workouts as if OKC made him a promise.

Thoughts?

If this is true… Why would he limit himself to just the 1 team?
I know OKC has a lot of picks, but they’ve allegedly made promises to half a dozen guys by now. Someone’s gonna end up disappointed..

With the combined power of two players we can form one pretty good player.

I'm not saying I don't want a defensive stopper. I'm saying I don't want a defensive stopper who can't shoot.
I remember Rubio was known for 2 things. Defense and setting up his teammates. I really disliked Rubio.

I liked Rubio. I think he came just a little early. If we had him and Bogey at the same it would have worked out better. Instead we started Rubio/Royce/Crowder all who can’t create their own shot.

A bunch of years ago I checked every mock from NBADRAFT.NET and they hit on like 10% of our actual picks (I think it was D-Will, Kanter and Pavlovic). It'd be cool to learn which draft site has been the most accurate for us.

I didn't like Rubio at all on the jazz and don't really remember any of his other teams having much success. THT is also known for defense and was quite good at setting teammates up. Dunn is known for defense and averaged 8 assists per 36 (really close to Conley in that regard) while we were surrounding him with crap teammates and tanking and he shot 54% from the field and 47% from 3.
If we want defense and setting up teammates from our point guard then we already have a couple of those dudes and it seems like most jazz fans don't really like either one all that much.
