Draft Homers List 2023

somebody talked some sense into the kid. about time. if you have trouble scoring 6 points a game at the d1 level, you probably should hold off on trying to play in the best league in the world.
Wonder if he goes to Australia or something. Interesting... would have thought just getting picked in the second round would have been good enough to roll the dice on the finances. Must think he's a lotto pick or something next year.

Right. Better than average 3-pt shooters that are good at blocking shots and could be switchable defensively across all positions is super common. The list is a mile long but I can’t think of a single one.
John Collins, Bobby Portis, Trey Lyles, Chimezie Metu, Jabari Smith, PJ Washington, and Christian Wood immediately come to mind and that's just the guys who have actually stuck. Not to say they are all exactly like Hendricks, but they are all variations on the same player.

I just don't think Hendricks has any kind of standout feel and I think he greatly benefitted from an easy schedule. I expect him to just not be dynamic/tough enough to be a real difference maker in the NBA. I think he will have a solid and long career because his archetype has value, but I don't expect him to hold down long term starter jobs.

We've seen plenty of good single year college shooters fail to reproduce those % in the NBA and I think his perimeter defense is greatly overrated and closer to a weakness than a strength.

Some of those examples are lol worthy... but some are applicable... you can also use Jaden Mcdaniels, Trey Murphy, etc. if we are going to stretch things. If Collins or PJ were consistent shooters they would be very in demand. They are already somewhat in demand. If Hendricks is as good a shooter as he showed in college he has the ability to be the very best version of this type of player.

I just don't think he is a perimeter defender like everyone else does so I can't use the McDaniels/Murphys. Maybe I'm just super wrong, but I saw a guy who will get exposed by NBA guards on the perimeter.

And they are all just "ifs". I do think his shooting is real but I thought the same thing with Jabari Smith and that wasn't a direct translation.

The knocks on Murphy were similar though. Not doing much with the ball etc. I think at very least Taylor will be a good weakside rim protector. There is a huge difference between McDaniels and being "exposed". At very least Hendricks will be able to hang as well or better on the perimeter than average PFs. He's not Trey Lyles. He's not Bobby Portis. If he is a suped up PJ Washington that is a great outcome at #9.

I think he's light in the *** Bobby Portis tbh. Which if he's able to bulk up to the 230 mark can work, but hes too light for his skillset as it stands.

Nobody mentioning Colby Jones yet. I can't help but think of the @KqWIN material he put in the draft thread about guys in past drafts who are projected to have low ceilings, but end up way over producing against their draft position.

I mentioned him early in the season but yeah… taking him in the 20s seems like a great bet.

Maybe Jeff Green. He's had a solid NBA career.

Yeah, he’s super vanilla so he’s kinda uninteresting to me, but I like him quite a bit. Something I try to remember is that blandness is what allows the spicier things to actually work.

The other part of that, though, is that he doesn’t seem to have any red flags at all, either, and sometimes that’s what can make a player stand out.
