2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Even at 5%... his market may not be what he thought it would so a three year deal with 5% raises isn't the end of the world.

Why does JC do this? You’re limited to 5% raises with an extend and trade.
I think he’s saying he opts in and then extends with the new rules (up to 140% raises) and that this would be a handshake agreement holding the deal together until June 30th when the extension could occur.

Gotcha… I was just stating we couldn’t extend him for more than 5% raises if we were trading him. He could take the Bogey route and extend as soon as it’s possible in Dallas.
Right and I don't even think it would be tampering to basically agree ahead of time on an extension... even if it was it would be pretty easy to work around. I don't think JC gets some 4/80M deal so opting into 14 and getting like another 32M or so... in a market he wants to be... I think that would work.

I mentioned this in another thread, but a really unsexy trade I think works well is taking Gallinari’s salary into space and getting Pritchard and #35 in return. That would allow Boston to keep Grant Williams for at least a little bit.

There is going to be a prospect on the board at #35 that a lot of people like. At least one of GG, Sidy, Jacquez, AJJ, Strawther, Terq, Bailey, or Walsh will be there.
I bet the Jazz can buy a pick in that range if they really wanted one. Don’t want Pritchard and I think Utah can utilize their cap space better than that.

Then don’t take Pritchard. I think the play is the pick and that price seems about going rate. They don’t usually go for cash until the late 40’s (cuz drafts usually drop off hard in the early 40’s).

If the Jazz get the 35 then that could be a play for Sidy, GG or someone like that. Me thinks trader Dan is scoping the entire landscape looking for the best value plays.

If Bufkin was a freshman (he is freshman aged) would we hesitate to put him next to Black/Wallace?

I’m still hesitant to put him with them, but I can’t put my finger on why.

And I suppose it could be us at #9 making sure no one trades up... weird that he is hiding from so many teams.

It sounds as though point guards may be avoiding Atlanta because they don't want to be behind Trae Young. Cason Wallace cancelled his workout with the Hawks, and it's not looking as though he has a promise above them in the draft order. Dallas could be another because of Luka (though they worked out Anthony Black).

I get that, but the reality is that Hartenstein is probably more valuable than the average 11th pick. I also dont think Bol Bol is ever a good player on a good team, a ton of fun though.
Hartlestein is Hella underrated. He's probably better than the average 11 pick. Not sure I would do this, but sometimes taking the easy layup is the right move.

I like Bufkin, but am not sure if he is a 1 or 2 in the NBA. He has talent though so I like him quite a bit.

He’d be ranked higher than them. I feel the same exact way you do.
