2023 NBA Draft Megathread

My prediction on draft night…

Hendricks falls and we trade him to OKC for our 2024 pick and some seconds.

We take Bufkin at 12.

We trade 28 and KO for Collins and 15. We take Bilal at 15 and Leonard Miller at 16.
Im good with that outcome

Just caught up on 30 pages of this thread.

I don't get the love of this board on going with a PG with the 9th pick. Wings are hard to acquire and harder to trade for. PGs and combo guards are a dime a dozen.

Bufkin and Cason Wallace types are good but at the end of the day wings are drafted and retained while combo guards and pgs are available as free agents every year.

I would prefer 2 wings and picking up an undervalued vet pg as a FA who can be a calming influence than going with a PG and a combo guard in the draft.
Im with ya. i dont want a pg at 9 for the same reasons you listed. At 16 im good with taking bufkin, wallace, or Bilal.

Bilal is in play for the 16th pick imo… I don’t think we are as all in as some think. Maybe if we trade back.

A bit... the difference is that Giannis was taller and longer than Bilal. And that is a big difference. 6'6.5 vs 6'9. Now, will Bilal would need to grow 5" between now and next year to have that potential.
Are those measurements without shoes? Bilal is 6'8inches with shoes but anyway. He would have to grow 3.5 inches and not 5. What is Giannis Wing span and vertical jump.

Saw this Wemby quote on Coulibaly on reddit:

Wembanyama: “When I see the top 10 prospects announced at the draft, and for example the twins Amen and Ausar Thompson, whose profile is similar to Bilal's, I tell myself, very factually, that if these players are announced in the first five picks while playing in a League, Overtime Elite, whose level is light-years away from what we experience here, then Bilal must be at least a top 5. He's taller, at least as athletic, has a bigger wingspan, shoots better...” (Source: L’Equipe)

I can't disagree with this. The difference is that the twins have a tighter handle and more shift off the dribble at the current stage, making them more potent off-the-dribble drivers. Bilal could catch up with them though.

He was a normal dude who was an excellent basketball player. He was not obsessed or consumed by it… I don’t blame him but that was the thing that held him back most imo… may have made him a better human though… balance… yada yada.
It might have made him a better person, but it seems like he didn't spend as much of his discretionary time being a great parent or doing charity work as much as playing video games or whatever.

I have heard tales that he would show up to Nets practice and mention that he was staying up all night playing WoW which is really great.

With all do respect, it shouldn't surprise anyone that fanatics give 10000% more ***** than dudes with no allegiance to a city other than the benjamins. I mean, 98% of the general workforce is filled with people giving 50% effort and just trying to make it to the weekend. Not sure why anyone would expect differently of young prima donnas that have typically been socialized to only give a **** about themselves. We are still a hedonist culture.

As long as we get one of Hawkins, Whitehead, Jett, Dick,Jones,Podz or NSJ in that order at 16 ,we will have great spacing, no matter who goes 9. Obviously it would be best to have a superstar ceiling prospect,to go along with these high level shooters and scorers but is there one there at 9, I doubt it.

I am okay really with two busts this cycle as long as we get a star. That would actually be better than the typical track record. Take the swings Danny please.
