2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Saw this Wemby quote on Coulibaly on reddit:

Wembanyama: “When I see the top 10 prospects announced at the draft, and for example the twins Amen and Ausar Thompson, whose profile is similar to Bilal's, I tell myself, very factually, that if these players are announced in the first five picks while playing in a League, Overtime Elite, whose level is light-years away from what we experience here, then Bilal must be at least a top 5. He's taller, at least as athletic, has a bigger wingspan, shoots better...” (Source: L’Equipe)

I have an admission to make. It's me, I'm Wemby.

I have to say, I'm still uncomfortable with the GG teflon crowd moving onto Bilal island lol.
I’m still a GG buyer just not at the 9th pick due to his mentality and availability of Hendricks and Black’s shooting coming around.

At 16th if we need a guard then he’s out also.

At 28th he’s a no brainer swing for the fence type pick imo.

Been busy for a couple hours and come back to 50+ new posts… was super excited to read some nice content. Instead I read Ferg posting non-sense about Bilal for 10+ posts in a row.

We are not taking him at 9. Please stop it with that craziness.
Would you at 16?
If we do keep the 28th pick, what do yall think about Jaime Jaquez and Murray? I love Kris Murray and if we could get anything like that in his bro, that would be amazeballs.

Also, everything I hear on podcasts about Jaquez is super positive and praiseworthy.
I don’t think either drops that far. Murray is underrated imo.

My opinion of GG hasn’t really changed much throughout all the craziness. I never bought into that momentary hype where every weakness was actually a strength. But at 28….sure take a swing. Not my type of swing but it’s the 28th pick. He might actually be higher than 28th on my board. It’s kinda where he’s always been for me and I wouldn’t be that mad if we took a flier on him.

And The Ringer has him at 230 lbs (though otherwise fairly accurate)? Wonder where that came from?

RealGM used to have him at 230 IIRC…I imagine that’s what they pulled from (or they pulled from the same source that RealGM did), but that was never accurate lol.

Nobody cares where you draft a player. If you want Bilal, you draft him wherever you can get him. Trading up from #16 might not turn the trick, unless we can convince Dallas to give us #10.

Thing is though, why wouldn't Dallas just take him at #10? If I'm Dallas and Bilal just falls in my lap, I go meet him at the airport. I'm not going to pass on him, just because I need to get Javale McGee off my books.
Dalls is in win now mode. Bilal is a project. If you're Dallas you trade the 10 for someone who can keep luca in Dallas. The biggest project in the top 17 players isn't that guy.

To me GG is undeniably more talented than Whitmore and I see his flaws as being easy to work on.

Sometimes I do feel like the GG is stuff is one giant smokescreen (pun intended). Of all that prospect interviews I watch, he's in the top 5 in terms of personality (Dick, Black, GG, OMP, and JHS). Not that he isn't immature, but it's immaturity entirely based on age and not some overarching character flaw.

They could go Bilal. At the end of the day you need to take who you truly believe can be the best player within their 4 year rookie contract. I think Bilal will need time, but he's not a 2 years away from being 2 years away type prospect either.

I think Dallas decision tree should be: How much better do we think Derick Lively is than James Nnaji, how far back can we safely trade back to draft James Nanji, and does what we get from trading back make up the difference (or possibly add to the positive difference).

Simply put I think it would be insanity to pass on the two centers with elite physical/athletic traits to pair with Luka.

But you really believe in Bilal why not? At the end of the day this draft is loaded on question marks and I still think the people acting like Bilal is anymore of a question mark than many of the other lottery prospects are being silly

I don’t get the pun part..

Just nutty athleticism. In terms of vertical explosiveness he might be ahead of both twins.

Working out with Melo confirming his busy potential

I wonder how they are trying to address the actual question marks of his game? His athleticism is really not surprising to anyone at this point. I'd much rather see him make some nice passes in 3 on 3, rather than... whatever this is... open lane dunking.
