2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Tankathon updated their site. 9 Black 16 Nick smith Jr 28 Maxwell Lewis

Unless Anthony Black is amazing (and available at 9), I think the Jazz will take a two-way wing at 9 and then move up from 16 to target one of a few guards.

NBA Draftroom shows the Jazz taking Bilal at 9, Hood-Schifino at 16 and Double-G at 28.

I think the Jazz are going to try to get Whitmore or Walker inside the top 10, and if they can't make that move it's a debate between Hendricks, Bilal and Ausar at 9. Eh, maybe even Dick is in that discussion.

Starting to wonder if this draft is as talented as we all think, just read on ESPN that Indy is wanting to move out of the seventh spot. I have heard several teams in the top 10 are wanting to move out or down. Portland, Detroit, etc. I think I am ready for the draft to happen, too much analysis and speculation. Thursday cannot come soon enough.
I view that as a sign of this drafts depth. The gap between 7 and 16 in this draft is tiny in my opinion. If a gm feels the same way then it makes sense to try to trade down and collect an asset and still get a player you really like. Hell in this draft I like Sidy, Whitehead, Nnaji who are projected in the late 1st or early 2nd in most mock drafts just as much as the guys projected in the middle of the 1st.

nbadr is kind of basic lol
imo highly unlikely any org, outside of one getting a franchise guy in return, like Zion to Portland, in the top 4 anyway, is giving up any of the picks in this draft range. I just think any site guessing we aint trading up unless we can move up to 5-7 is pretty obvious. But with the collection of assets we have if we can, and it's to steal Cam or Miller both of whom Detroit is likely dreaming will fall to them, I's be shocked.
Most likely if we trade up it will be for Amen at 5 because Detroit prefers others. I also could see us get significant offers for 9 to trade out or down if any of Hendricks Auser Bilal or some other orgs sleepers are suspected to be high on the picks right after us.

Several podcasts I have listened to felt like the very top of the draft is ver special and that the 10 - 17 is pretty meh and that there is a huge let down after 17.

One point they made is that there were lots of injuries that were previously highly touted (Dariq Whitehead, NSJ, etc) and also that some of the players that dropped out hurt the depth of the draft. Not sure I agree, just relaying the content.

I think a lot of players in the draft look very intriguing. I am also way low on Keyonte George after some other commentary about his lack of ability to create separation without over dribbling. If we grab a combo guard I think there are much more intriguing players.
I think you need to stop listening to those podcasts. This may be the deepest draft ever.

I like a lot of players in this draft, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't live up to the hype. 4-5 of the top 10 players didn't play college ball, and so it's difficult to get accurate reads on them. Then there are a ton of Freshman who didn't win anything or put up amazing numbers or anything at the college level. There is a lot of context to all of that, but it could be something we look back at and realize we were overrating these guys.

The other thing is many of the top rated high school players have gotten injured or disappointed. Like if you look at the ESPN top 100 high school players for previous drafts they usually have at least 4-5 of the top draft picks in the top 10. This year the highest rated players expected to go in the top 10 are Brandon Miller who was 9th and then Jerace Walker who was 10th.

Its a solid draft for defensive wings that pass and don't offer any spacing, and it has the most freakish long and tall guard skilled pf/c in the history of drafts. It also has a DRose, a Ray Allen clone and even has some interesting developmental wings and pf's with hard to find physicality and or Anthro. But it is lacking in PG depth and there are maybe 3 centers in this draft that will be in the NBA in 5 years.
It is a solid draft class compared to most, but lacking in a lot of areas with a lot of gambles expected to fail.

That usually bodes well for the depth of the draft. Guys who were highly rated who go late first have a better chance of doing something I think.

Throw me into traffic.
When you have a chance to draft a guy that can maybe kinda shoot a little at best, a guy with a bad knee that only shoots floaters (poorly), and a guy who couldn’t win like at all in a mid conference, you have to go for it.

We are not drafting any of those 3 so relax
