2023 NBA Draft Megathread

The last two guys i remember slipping due to medical concerns turned out ok. One just won the mvp last season and the other just won a ring last season.

I just don't know what type of underlying medical concern will allow him to look like one of the best athletes out there, while still being serious enough to drop his stock that much. We've heard about degenerative knee conditions, but those are usually after serious ACL/PCL/MCL injuries, we've seen back injuries impact player's draft stock(MPJ), but looking through his reports I see nothing of any importance/significance. Except for that thumb injury. I refuse to believe a thumb injury will get 5 teams before us to pass on him. The other type of issue that might considerably impact his draft status is the type that might impact his ability to play the game altogether(heart conditions, etc.), but I don't think this is what they are talking about here.

That's why I'm EXTREMELY skeptical about those reports. This looks like someone trying to drop his stock and make a team that didn't receive his medicals to pass on him.
He missed his freshman year of highschool because of a broken leg so it may have to do with that.

Of course I don't know any real details about his health, but if Cam falls to #9 it's likely because of health. You guys can make jokes about the language used or whatever....but you know it's real if he falls. I get that you may love Cam as prospect (player) but if he has health issues he has health issues. If they are not real and just fake, we won't be in a position to draft him anyways.
Some of the red flags are "issues" that should be overlooked but get put under a microscope at draft time. If its described as a yellow flag that is just funny to me because it is something I haven't heard. Obviously if he has a knee or foot issue its serious... but yellow flag just makes me laugh... like does he have some issues with seasonal allergies?

Yellow flag sounds like a gm or front office floating some nonsense to draft guys... It might be that he has an injury that needs to be addressed now that will be a training camp issue. If it was something with a knee foot or back I'd think it would be a red flag... I also want a rainbow of flags from now on.

Zion can do a between the legs dunk right now. The reports on his potential medical issues combined with reports that he was "low energy" are not a good sign as those could be related. Some edited clips of his workouts do not convince me he is healthy or in good shape. When Givony said GG's workouts was bad, the GG folks said there was a conspiracy against GG because he looked good in the clips. It was Givony's clips they were watching lol. What goes in a video is not reality.

I agree that Cam will not get passed on by 5 teams for a thumb injury, which is why if he falls to us it's probably more serious. Like I said, we cannot know or know if the reports are real....but if he did fall 5 spots it's probably something real. I don't think floating out a fake "bad medical" report is going to sway teams from drafting him. If we are in position to draft Cam, there's a reason he fell that far and it's almost certainly that the medical issues are real. I don't think you can have it both ways where 1) the reports are fake and 2) Cam still falls. The scenario where Cam is healthy and this all a lie + he still falls is not a real situation IMO.

It's pretty obvious what yellow flag means to me. It's a concern, but maybe not the concern that would warrant the typical "red flag" label. Honestly, I don't care about the language. Fact is, if we are in a position to draft Cam there is a reason why he dropped. If he's there at #9, chances are he fell because teems were spooked by his medicals and not because they were spooked about a fake report about his medicals. Not every player that falls due to health concerns ends up being a bad pick, but to brush it off because one guy used some funny words is dumb.

People want the dream scenario where Cam is perfectly healthy and DA pulled off some media magic to make him fall anyways. Sorry, that's just totally unrealistic. If you were actually trying to fake something to get Cam to drop, why would you say he has yellow flag instead of a red flag anyways? Just doesn't make sense at all.

I disagree. There are basketball reasons for a small chance for Whitmore to drop to 7-9.... probably not much past that though... Either way we are not likely to learn what his issue is before the draft IMO. If there is an issue serious enough to drop him, we will learn one way or another after the draft.

It could be the case that he stunk it up so badly teams don't want to draft him. The idea of using "yellow flag" as a tactic to make him drop is sooooo unrealistic though. If you were trying to fake a report that he had health issues, there is no reason to use a term that describes the medical issues as more mild. It's completely illogical.

To me it sounds like a fake made up term. I've never heard of this one before and I've been following drafts in variety of sports for 20 years...
I think it would be akin to a guy having ACL surgery. I guess after one traumatic injury you can be "yellow flagged".

Someone mentioned he broke his leg his freshman year of HS, so there could be some permanent structural damage there that could potentially be a thing down the line. (Pure speculation)

Either way... I think I prefer him to be there for us to pick than not be there... even if the "yellow flag" is real. I'd rather us have the chance at a high potential prospect than not... let Ainge have the chance to get him and if he thinks the yellow flag makes the pick too risky... then at least we would have known we preferred another player with his respective risk/reward profile.

He's had some poor workouts. He may fall a bit.
Yeah, that's what we read from the media. A player had a bad pre-draft workout, shots didn’t go in, didn’t look energetic that day, looked sort of sleepy, and then a team won’t select him to be their player potentially for several years because of it. How dumb folks think the GMs are?
