2023 NBA Draft Megathread

7 spots can't equal catastrophic for me. If he's good, he's good. And thus, worth the pick. If he stinks, he stinks, and it's a bad pick. I guess if like 5 players between #9-16 become all stars it could look extremely ugly. But that seems unlikely.

#9 and #16 feels like enough equity in this draft to land both of them. But maybe not exactly at those spots.

7 spots is catastrophic if you leave one of the best 7-9 players in the draft on the board to reach for him.

If we passed on Black for him, that'd be rough. But if Danny Ainge likes Bilal more than whoever the top 10 consensus guy who is left at #9, who are we to say he's wrong? He is privvy to much more info than we are.

When you say best 7-9 players you just mean as a draft prospect. The actual best players in this draft won't be known for a long time.

I know what you mean though, and it's pretty likely I like someone more at #9 as well. I'm just saying if we walk out of tomorrow with Bilal and Bufkin, I'm happy with it.

I just dont want to miss out on getting to watch Bilal develop.

I dont think he's Giannis, but I do think he might have some crazy growth spurt, either vertically or mass wise.

Like we got all these damn picks. Let's get an exciting project.

We can draft Rupert at 28 then.

I think Bufkin has a reasonable case to be in the consensus top 9 that might be top 10. Bilal I really think is someone they like at 16... JHS is the same imo.

If we came out with Bufkin and Bilal I'd be happy.

I'm just worried that Bilal definitely won't be there at 16. So I get why they wouldn't wait around. I need the Jazz to turn 9 and 16 into like 11 and 13 or something. Or just grab an extra pick somewhere, they seem to be very available.

These medical concerns with Whitmore are definitely spooking me. If it's enough to have him fall all the way to #9 it means it's bad.

I have yet to see anything about this. You have a link?

The flag was yellow though... it wasn't red or orange... word is it was kinda yellowish green... almost like a checkered type pattern.

the attention on this guy is overblown and he should be there at 16 but yeah probably gets overpicked by OKC or ORL. Upside sure, floor pretty ****ing low

Shooting usually gets better with these kids. If that is the one and only thing, I don't see why worry about it so much at this stage.
That would definitely be my hope if we drafted Black. There are many examples of guys getting much better at shooting in the NBA, but there are also examples of guys where their shooting never comes around, and for guards that can limit them severely.

I'm not a fan of Black's shooting form and his hesitancy to shoot from distance when he is wide open. I think he has a really long way to go for his jump shot to be anything positive. I think the most likely scenario is that Black develops a Ricky Rubio level 3pt shot. Rubio is basically a .333 3pt shooter, so someone you don't mind taking 3's, but also someone who the defense doesn't respect and so it impacts spacing.

NBA offenses keep improving and for the Jazz to have an elite offense I don't think we can have multiple non-shooters and spacing issues. I think if Black was able to join a team with a 5 that can space the floor a little, he will be an amazing NBA player. I do really like him, and so I'm hoping he goes to a potentially better situation for him than Utah.

I think it's BS. He looked pretty good in some of those clips athletically/physically.
The term "yellow flag" should make everyone chuckle.

If MPJ can survive 3 back surgeries to still be a great playoff player, teams are going to not be scared of a guy with yellow flags over his thumb(?)

If teams are passing on Whitmore it's because they dont trust his basketball ability outside of his athleticism relative to the other lottery guys.

Eh....means nothing if he looks explosive but an underlying issue is found. I hope his health is all good but if he's available at #9, we know the medical issues are real.
