exactly. In my scenario the jazz had watched all these guys for years and really liked them all. They had imagined ways each player could fit with the team and culture. They liked some better than others but really liked all 4 for different reasons. Some would cost more assets than others so they pick the guy they really like that doesn't cost assets.
Fair enough. Seems like we mostly agree. I think I was just caught on the 4A-4D thing. Even in your analogy, you like one car more than the rest, it's just the extra cost that gives you pause.
I have my worries about Black... but I also love a ton of things about his game and his defense. If you think you can develop his shot, IMO Black can turn into a great winning piece of a contending team. He probably won't be an MVP-level talent because of lack of self-creation, but... I think you can do much worse at 9.
that's not right. at least not for me. the way i would put it is that if black is 5 on our big board and say, hendricks is 6 on our big board and jhs is 7th on our big board and intel tells us hendricks and jhs will be there at 9, but black won't, it may not be worth the cost to get black, when i can get hendricks or jhs.
that's what i've been arguing the entire time. anybody would move up if it's free to move up. the argument has always been whether or not it costs too much to make it worth it. my feeling is that the cost is probably too much - that 4-9 are close enough in talent and potential that the cost to move up isn't worth it.
I still would love a best of both worlds trade where we give 9/16/Unprotected Cavs or Minny pick for 6/11... Move up from both spots.

I get why they did the trade, I'm just surprised that they're getting such awful value.
