What's new

The Jazz will be playing in the playoffs

These two statements contradict each other just a bit.
Not seeing the contradiction. His point seems to be that many teams are likely to come into the last few weeks in tight contention and the Jazz don't have a tough schedule down the stretch. How are you reading it?

If I had franklins MS paint wizardry, id totes-mcgots photoshop Ty's face onto some jamaican lady with a collection of voodoo dolls.
Watch as the next generation of Jazz talent develops right before your eyes. Voodoo Tyrone cannot be stopped!

- The Jazz do not rely anymore on injury-prone AK, Boozer and Memo. They have much lower chances of significant injuries than their competitors. They also do not seem to have any locker-room issues.

and now you have jinxed the utah jazz. watch all them injuries comming.

unless this is a counter jinx. but by saying this is a counter jinx i may have jinx them yet again

Please no. I'd rather see the young jazz players grow this year and have one or two picks in a loaded draft. Al, Milsap, Raja, and Harris could get us to the playoffs but its no fun to watch.
• New Jersey trades a 2012 first round pick (top 7 protected in 2012 and 2013, top 6 protected in 2014) to Utah as part of the Deron Williams/Devin Harris trade. New Jersey acquired a 2012 first round pick (top 7 protected in 2012 and 2013, top 6 protected in 2014) from Golden State as part of the Marcus Williams trade. Compensation will change to 2014 and 2016 second round picks if the first round pick is not conveyed by 2014.

• Utah trades a 2012 first round pick (top 14 protected in 2012, top 12 protected in 2013, right to swap if pick is outside of top 9 in 2014) to Minnesota as part of the Al Jefferson/Kosta Koufos trade. If pick it not conveyed by 2014 compensation changes to a second round pick.

My sentiments exactly.

Agreed, we should always strive to make the playoffs. If you want to develop young players the playoffs is where that will happen the most. Games are more intense and high level of play comes out. You want them to see what it is like and how it is different from the regular season. Then they know they have to work harder and what they need to improve in the off season. Anyone who would rather miss the playoffs for a late lottery draft pick is just plain stupid and does not understand building a team.

So help me understand this correctly. You are saying that a 66 game regular season is not as effective as a possible 4 to7 games in the playoffs?

I am glad that there are some people here that care about the future of the organization. With the right pick the Jazz will be in the playoffs next year and contending within 3 years. Look at the big picture people.

It would be different if we had a team that could make the playoffs and actually have a shot at a championship or at least deep run. We don't, yet. That does not mean tank/lose on purpose, etc. It simply means I would rather get a lotto pick (or two) than squeeze into the playoffs and die a quick death.

... as a 7th or 8th seed (barring major injuries). Yes, they will be destroyed by many good teams in the coming days and still make it. There is too much going for them.

- The Jazz showed that despite all of their problems they still can win at home. They will also win games on the road against the bad teams.

- The first and second-year Utah players will inevitably get significantly better over the course of the season. And Millsap, Jefferson and Howard seem to care.

- The compressed season is favoring teams with young legs and deep benches. Also, the compressed season greatly diminishes the distance between the teams in the standings: good teams cannot get enough separation from the bad ones. In 1998-99 6th-9th places in both conferences finished within 2 games.

- The Jazz do not rely anymore on injury-prone AK, Boozer and Memo. They have much lower chances of significant injuries than their competitors. They also do not seem to have any locker-room issues.

- Two main Jazz competitors for 7th-8th places are San Antonio and Memphis: they both already have long-term injuries to their major players.

- Finally, Utah has a favorable schedule: their last 4 games are against Portland (2), Phoenix and Orlando. Orlando and Portland will be resting their starters and Phoenix busily tanking.

The Jazz will finish with 33-35 wins. It will be a fun season and they will be a very different team in April.

.....don't take a urine test anytime soon.....you'll never pass it!

The only thing that I would add to this is making sure that people understand that I am not asking the Jazz to tank the season. I think they are good enough to win the games that they should with the young talent that they have. I just get worried that when crunch time come around the players on the court are not the young guys but the vets and the black hole. If Jefferson is the only go to scoring option then wouldn't it make sense to give others an opportunity if you are trying to build even a little bit for the future?

Good OP by newb "double Dribble".

It is just a matter of time before he is dragged down into the mud by the mean spirited dumbass children that run rampant on this board.

We should taser them. Me personally there is nothing any of you can say that will affect my personaltiy on these boards. I am who I am and that works for me.

Having said that I am ok with the playoff sif the young core takes us there.

If you want to win a championship and be a high level team no. The playoffs experience is so valuable. Everyone gets the 66 regular games, so the playoffs are on top of that. Look at what the playoffs does for young teams like the Thunder. Being the last seed team and playing the Lakers and losing did so much for those guys. Gave them a taste of the playoffs and made them more hungry and more dedicated and since then they have been a much better team.

Hey, are you from Honduras or did you just spend some time there? I was fortunate to spend a month, mainly in the Bay Islands as part of longer 3 month backpacking trip through Central America. Good memories.

Never thought of it that way. Maybe you're right.

Just think how great they'd be if they had lost 4 games a year several years sooner, instead of drafting the actual players that make them who they are. Then they'd be really good.

The title of this thread is missing something:

The Jazz will be playing in the playoffs in 2013.

There, that's better.

the jazz will suffer some injuries at some point, too, so let's not get overconfident based on other teams' health issues. harris and howard are already gimpy and the jazz still aren't two weeks into the season.

that said, i was looking at the standings today and surprised at how unscared i was at all of the sub-.500 teams. dallas is going to come back at some point, and minny is one botched defensive play from being 3-3. but other than that... golden state, phoenix, new orleans and houston all have serious flaws.

so do the jazz though. here's what we know so far: they aren't going to win a bunch of road games against good teams (0-3) so far, and they are capable of being bad-to-mediocre teams at home (3-0 so far). their record depends a lot on how well they do in games like tonight (at home against a good team) and tomorrow (on the road against bad-to-mediocre teams).

I lived there for a while, mostly in the eastern part of the country.

Thats why I said playoffs are better than a late lottery pick not a 2nd overall pick in a draft with 2 players who were considered elite.

A big win today. Memphis is the team we are very likely to finish neck-to-neck with, it would be great to have a tiebreaker with them. It is amazing to see how much better Howard, Burks, Favors and Kanter looked today compared to the start of the season. Our team is going to get better with every game, people tend to forget that besides having 5 first/second year players we have key veterans that are very new to the team - Howard and Harris. And even Jefferson spent just a season with the team.

The Jazz are much better than how they looked in the first 2-3 games, just give them some time.
