Shootout In Ogden

I find that in most instances, the folks that think Ogden is the "armpit" of Utah, or that it's a "**** hole" are usually people from the Salt Lake Valley or further south who rarely get further north than Lagoon. I was born and raised in and around Ogden and have owned 2 homes there. While it certainly has some rough parts, I would choose to live/spend time in Ogden long before I'd do the same in places such as Kearns or West Valley. In fact, those places make Ogden look like Disneyland. I should also note that while I've never lived in Kearns or West Valley, I spent the better part of a decade working in both areas so I feel I have a pretty good knowlegde of what I'm talking about. Truth is, there are places up and around North and East Ogden that are probably some of the most beautiful places to live in the state.

Also, shame on anybody who is trying to rationalize this guys actions. It was 8:45pm when the cops knocked on his door and announced who they were. It's not as if they knocked once and busted his door in at 3am leading this guy to be confused and/or disoriented. He knew damn well who was at the door, and the fact that he was armed and ready for a fire fight just adds to his incrimination.

Not justifying his actions but he did work the graveyard shift at Wal-Mart. He very well could have been deep asleep at that time prior to waking and getting ready for work.

This makes you look as dumb as the person whom you chided over bashing Ogden. Again, there are some bad pockets but there are also some very nice, safe neighborhoods.

You either jump to conclusions too easily or have a serious reading comprehension problem. I never attacked Kearns or West Valley as being an "armpit" or a "**** hole" as some others in here have said about Ogden. What I said was, that having spent a good amount of time in places like that, I would choose Ogden over them as a place to live in a heartbeat. Nothing more, nothing less.

If by BEST you mean the armpit of Utah, then yes I agree with you. Actually more like the smelly ball sack of Utah.

I blame it on Brigham Young. It has never recovered since his jealosy of the railroad hub crushed it. It's been a crap hole since 1870 and I heard B.Y. tried to anex it to Tijuana.

My heart goes out to all involved in this tragedy, including the shooter's family. Terrible tragedy.

I admire the restraint on behalf of the other officers who only wounded him and took him into custody. I would probably not have blamed them for unloading their weapons into him. That's a good police force we have up here.

I was born and raised in Ogden, and it is a fine place to live. Like everywhere, it has its great, good and bad places. More positives than negatives here.

New details on this case....change anyone's opinion? After clearing the house he surprised officers and shot two short range then chased them into the street shooting at officers. Then again like some said they can see that being justified.

A friend of mine is on the force in Ogden and was friends with the officer who died and has had some sobering stuff on his facebook page. Very sad.
