2023 Trade Rumors and Gossip Involving the Jazz

If true this does offer some insight into what we are going to do with space…looks like we will at least attempt to add some win now talent.

Tony mentioned we might kick the cap space until next year but that would mean trading for expiring salary or signing 1-year deals.

I could see that… I think we at least try and find some long term acquisitions first though.

That makes some sense, though I imagine they'll probably look to absorb some expiring w/ an asset attached first, then flip at the deadline for another asset. Don't see much on the FA market that's attainable that moves the needle that much, so would rather just grab some decent roleplayers relatively cheap a go with depth if we're going in the win-now mode.

It makes a ton of sense to push the capspace to next year. No matter what we do this offseason we aren't a contender so it makes sense to focus on player development this year so that we actually have an idea of what caliber of players we have going into next offseason and what type of holes we need to fill. The last thing we want is to sign a bunch of vets that make getting consistent minutes for some of our young guys difficult and we go into next offseason not really having a good idea of what we have.

One guy to watch for a one year FA deal. Josh Richardson… it’s not super sexy but he did pretty well operating as a psuedo-pg for NO. I could see us using 12-13M on a 1+1 deal for him and having him fill in some gaps in the backcourt or wing.

That is a plan K type of thing if the better options don’t come through. Guys like that can become minor trade assets at very least.

I think we need to hunt in both markets though… we will have space next year as well… unless we go hog wild… don’t want to sit out a market that may yield a good opportunity. If you sign a solid deal the player should be an asset you can sell off later if need be.

I don't think that's a bad idea, but I'd probably look for younger players that need to continue to develop and take a flier on. Small amount/years deals that don't really ding anything. I'm also not obtuse to using our space to absorb a deal for an asset, but insomuch as it doesn't really take away playing time from the kids.

Good info, thanks.

Same with Kuzma, I think he would have made sense as a target before the Hendricks pick but now not so much.
I disagree. Still think he fits just fine. Jazz are still pretty weak at the 3, and Hendricks doesn’t fit there at all. Kuzma can play with Lauri, Hendricks, KO, Agbaji, etc. Jazz should be flexible in their roster both during the regular season and in the playoffs.

Oklynk stays and becomes an expiring.

Clarkson either opts out and leaves or opts in and is extended. Don’t really see an in between for him.

THT probably opts in. Don’t think he gets extended, but it might depend on how his season goes.

Gay and Jones both opt in and are probably traded in a consolidation trade.

I just really like the idea of a Lauri/Hendricks/Kessler starting frontcourt in the future, and there are other ways I would rather spend $25-30 million in cap space than on Kuzma.

I think we keep Jones for now. We are thin on actual centers, especially as Kelly seems fragile nowadays (I think he gets dealt at the deadline.)

I think I would pop on Kuzma for anything under 25. We are really, really young and Kuzma at that price would have value if Hendicks gells quickly. I think they are going to need to tear down Hendricks a bit and rebuild him. That could take time (but not Balil time, thankfully.)

Long term adds in FA are like Bruce Brown, Austin Reaves… doesnt sound like FVV is a real thing for us. Lots of forwards on the market I’d have interest in but we kinda need to clear a path for playing time for Hendricks… we will see.

I'm down to hunt but to a smaller extent. I like the idea of Jalen McDaniels if the price is right and I have always had an unhealthy fondness for Cam Reddish. Naz Reid is a guy we have all spoken about being a good target. Then there are couple other young athletic wings like Troy Brown, Darius Bazley and Dalano Banton that I wouldn't mind taking a look at. If we came out of this free agency with McDaniels and Reid then I would be pretty happy.
