What's new

I really like Ty Corbin

count me in the crowd that liked Corbin from the beginning. It's clear the guy works really hard and responds to the effort that is being put out.

I'll be paying attention to the way he handles the Raja situation.... The rest of his minutes should go to Evans, IMO

Now that Burks is getting decent burn I agree. Lets see some Evans.

Ty needs to realize how much Bell hurts this team. We spot just about every team a 10 point lead in the first quarter, playing 4 on 5 on offense. He is not good enough on D to even come close to making up for that. And Favors need 25 mpg minimum.

But the team is coming around. Love the energetic defense.

I think is starting to see that. Bells time has gradually been going down with Burks time rising. I like this trend. Burks is earning it and he is getting it. Just like Corbin said.

One of the things I noticed last night was how our coaching staff is working together to make their decisions.

At one timeout, you could see Tyrone, Horny, Scottie, and Lowe huddled in a circle discussing, while on the other side of the court Hollins assistants were staring off into space while he yelled at his guys.

Corbin might not be a great coach, but he does seem to work effectively as a coaching team.

He impressed me last night with his body language. So important for a coach and leader.

He's smarter than the avererage bear.

Memphis is a rugged team so Corbin plays Milsap and Big Al much more minutes than Favors, Kanter and Evans who'll be ready for a fast Golden State team tommorow.
Burks got extended minutes as well because the 2 position on Memphis wasn't amazing today, but tomorrow that position will be tough to guard and a fresh set of CJ legs should do the trick.

Ty's defensive philosophy is playing well too. The only problem is minutes for Bell and Evans. Bell needs horshoe minutes and Evans needs horse minutes
This!

GS is a team that likes to get out and run. Favors matches up better against Biedrins then he does against Gasol. And I believe you're right about CJ. He'll be more efffective against GS. In my mind, Ty has done a pretty good job distributing minutes and trying to look at current and next game match-ups. Every team is going to struggle with the condensed schedule. Teams with depth, in which the top 6-7 are willing to reduce their minutes some games, are going to fare better comabating the fatigue factor. I expect the Jazz may be able to win a few games with their expanded bench. That was certainly the case against Memphis, with a 41-11 advantage, I think.

However, if the Jazz loses to GS, do the "fire TY" threads get bumped to the top?

My Magic 8 Ball says - All Signs Point To Yes

If Ty is a turd, he smells a lot better than some posters here.

I'm not getting the Raja hate today. He made some nice plays last night. Bell is still the worst wing on the team but he had his best effort so far against the Griz.

With the season starting out with six games in eight nights, Ty has done a good job with minutes. We all know Bell has lost a few steps, but I think starting him out is the only way we could use him. He does play smart D and if we give too many minutes to Burks, it could hurt his development. I also like what he is doing with Kanter. Obviously, Kanter isn't ready for huge minutes, but bringing him in and having him focus on rebounding has helped Kanter get some minutes.

If we make the playoffs, Ty could be...(get ready for it) COACH OF THE YEAR!!!!

I think Harris could play minutes at SG. Yes, too much for Burks may not be a good thing.

But Bell just needs to be benched, he is useless. He kind of reminds me of Adam Keefe on offense: cannot dribble, shoot, drive, or pass. In other words, he can do nothing on offense. Getting behind by 10 points every first quarter of 4 on 5 is getting really really old.

If we ever acquire a good shooting PG (like Calderon) I could see running Harris at the 2. Him and Watson don't really go well together though.

AKMVP wanted to lynch me for saying so lol.

I think Bell still plays pretty good defense if he isn't matched up against someone with supreme athletic ability and talent.

I'm very happy with Ty's approach so far.

I'm really interested to see what he does to the offense with a training camp and a preseason.

Coach Ty has the guys playing defense and rebounding getting the most minutes. Notice CJ only logged 9 minutes vs the Griz, while Burks' minutes went up. Absolutely LOVE the energy and hustle on D!!
Ty is totally into the game and handling his players the right way; there are no anointed players or positions.
Coach Ty hs plenty of scorers on the first unit; Bell is there for defense and veteran leadership. Howard is the vet who can score on the 2nd unit. That should help turn down CJ's turbos when he gets the ball. On the first unit, Hayward is a good playmaker, which helps out Harris, who is more scorer/driver than assist man. Bell also had 3 assists in his limited minutes vs the Griz. Harris and his TO's were hurting us early a lot more than Bell's play.

Except for Bell, I love what he's doing with minutes right now. If guys or units are effective, they play. Basketball 101.

I was just coming here to comment on this, actually. Ty STILL hasn't had a real training camp or pre-season.

My crystal ball says the Jazz are in a great position.

I'm not going to make any judgement calls just yet about Ty, not until he has been coach for two full seasons or so.

However, I was amazed beyond belief at the defense that was played last night. I haven't seen defense like that from the Jazz for a long long time. If this continues, our only lottery pick this year will come from the Warriors.

Wouldn't it be funny if 'Ty the turd' became 'Ty the Hall of Fame turd'? I just hope he doesn't get coach of the year, that'd probably jinx him.
