What's new

2023 NBA Free Agency Thread

My boy Brady Manek had 11 points for the Hawks tonight coupled with his 17 vs. the Kings. Same size as Paul Reed and probably cheaper. Averaged 13 ppg on Bryce Cotton's Aussie team last season.

The good news about the jazz extending an offer sheet to Reed is that it shows they’re willing to use the room exception - hopefully they can find someone else they’re willing to use it on. I’m still hoping for Kelly Oubre, Jr. - but I guess we’ll see.

Wouldn’t it be better to keep the cap to take on some contracts ala Collins?

Or has those chances dried up now?

They dried up when the Jazz decided to use the rest of the cap space to extend Clarkson and then failed to use the $9.6 million trade exception they had from the Rudy trade last year.

They can use the room exception or minimum salaries for free agents, or use one of their remaining trade exceptions to acquire a low cost guy.

If they had someone they liked they could do a sign and trade with KO, THT, Sexton

That’s true, but there simply doesn’t seem to be anyone left available that is worth that kind of investment.

My guess is they’ll just add a guy with one of the exceptions they have available to fill out the roster (probably a center) and then consolidate Olynyk, Sexton and/or THT into a trade for a guy they think will be a long-term piece at the deadline.

It’s possible once some of the pending trades (Lillard, Harden, etc.) get processed that an opportunity presents itself. . . they might get involved in something if that’s the case.

DJJ and Lindy Waters are my two preferred options, but I'm guessing they will be looking for another big.

The Lakers are gonna sign Christian Wood and it’s gonna be a problem for the league.

I’m so god damn sick of the built-in advantages for them.

We could offer him more than them by a lot and sign him. I think teams aren’t signing him for a reason.

DroppingDimes20 (the legit) dropped Siakam to Atlanta.

Feels wrong.

Be it Capela or Okungwu at 5, DJM at 2, Siakam at 4. Thats 3 starters with career numbers well below 35% from 3. They would have no spacing whatsoever.

Trae 35.1% also but I want to argue thats due to bad shot selection more than anything.
