2023 NBA Free Agency Thread

DroppingDimes20 (the legit) dropped Siakam to Atlanta.

Feels wrong.

Be it Capela or Okungwu at 5, DJM at 2, Siakam at 4. Thats 3 starters with career numbers well below 35% from 3. They would have no spacing whatsoever.

Trae 35.1% also but I want to argue thats due to bad shot selection more than anything.

Marc Stein is now reporting about a potential Siakam trade as well. Says Hawks and Pacers are both trying to acquire him and says there are a few other teams interested as well.

What is the package? Isn’t he expiring? Hawks have some picks/swaps in 28/29/30 they could use I suppose.

So the Piston really think Isaiah Stewart is worth 4 years 64M? Thats a weird extension... they love giving mid bigs 8 figures a year I guess.
Let them. Any wayward contract is going to be killer in the new CBA - I’m actually really glad Danny Ainge used restraint and focused on adding Collins and extending Clarkson. Most contracts are going to need to be value deals - feels like the Jazz have a bunch of those currently.

15 per year is going to be a fairly miniscule contract within 2-3 years.

The cap goes up 10% a year so it will look better... its just weird. On extensions the number should come in lower as the team has a better bargaining position imo. Could be some unlikely bonus stuff as well... so who knows.

Sexton/Stewart based trade incoming
I think IF (big if) Sexton is traded it might be in the Raps deal with Siakham...if the Pacers get him we trade Sexton to Toronto and take back Theis (expiring essentially) and McConnell... the most point guardy point guard to add to the mix. Firsts flow to Toronto from Indiana... seconds flow our way I guess.

A little underwhelming. Maybe we can’t get a first for Sexton but I think we could potentially?

I think we only move Sexton if we get a first OR if they feel deeply compelled to play Key a ton and can make an okayish deal to clear the decks a bit. Can also slide THT into that deal for either guy. I think you can still find minutes for Sexton, George, THT, JC but the alignment might look wonky.

Okay I know this isn’t free agency but I know Milwaukee (supposedly) was interested in Sexton, which I thought was oddly specific. Anyway, what about expanding that with Chicago?

I’d hope to either consolidate the assets where maybe Chicago can send something Milwaukee’s way that more likely let’s them relinquish a first rounder, or both teams send us multiple seconds, or (perhaps my preference) we choose a year where we do a three-way swap and we get rights to the highest pick.

Move allows us to increase value of assets, clear the deck for a better opportunity of KG, then take a flyer on Ball where, if ever healthy, would be a perfect fit.

KG
Ball
Hendricks
Lauri
Kessler

Lonzo might not ever play again.

As the loudest dude on the site about the issues with meniscus injuries, I support going after Ball in part because I just believe that this surgery is going to work (because he’s actually replacing meniscus via transplant). If it doesn’t work, he’s a ‘25 expiring. If it does work, he’s an absolutely perfect piece here and you were able to get him because of the risk.

Ball isn't playing this year..... I don't think he's ever going to play again. Thank goodness we'll never trade for him
