He didnt show any flashes of that last season so it's a wait and see thing. IF he does attempt to be a more versatile player, he will likely drop significantly in efficiency and the whole "Is Kessler a young Gobert" thing kind of gets thrown out the window because they cease to be comparable players.

He did actually flash the ability to potentially be a floor spacer if I recall he has made more threes in his entire career than Rudy has

He made one 3 and shot 51% from the FT line.

Wouldnt say that qualifies as a flash. Hardy's public facing comments also dont suggest he's excited for Walker to start shooting jumpers.

Nah... he might be able to have more volume than Rudy because he is better at catching in a crowd and has a wider variety of finishes around the basket. His shooting percentages were bad and his shooting motion is not promising. Starts low with a lot of room for something to go sideways. He should dedicate some time to it but focus elsewhere.

We should have signed Mason Plumlee... hes the 29th best offensive player ever and was signed for a mere 5M. Major dunce hat for Ainge.

Yeah, the most obvious way I can see him being better than Gobert is those like 5-8 foot push shots, but unless you're elite at them they are usually poor shots. I also think we kind of forget how good Gobert got at layup finishes around the rim off rim rolls. He got really good at those fully stretched out layups off the PNR. I do think we underrate some of Gobert's non dunk finishing.

The over thing that may be in reach is just drawing more fouls. He does have better offensive body control than Gobert, so if he can leverage that to actually draw fouls he has a shot. I do expect WK to eventually be a better FT shooter than Gobert was, but I'm not fully confident he will ever draw them like Gobert.

I hate Walker's FT motion. I would have reworked the whole thing. He starts low and brings it up in this looping motion. make it more compact.
 
I think where Kessler will excel over Gobert is in catching the ball in the post. If you put the pass in the correct place with Gobert it was pretty much an automatic bucket. But the pass had to be precise. If you missed that window, it was an adventure and could get ugly.

Kessler has better hands and makes things easier on the playmaker. It will make him harder to defend and easier to build around without needing elite playmaking to unlock.

Yeah, it's weird, but I just kind of buy into his touch eventually being able to translate out to the FT line. If we dont see some improvement this year I wont hold my breath.

We'll see... I think consistency is key and there is just too much going on.
 
The biggest thing I think is that currently you can bench Kessler.

You just couldnt bench Gobert.

For one, Gobert's ego got too big. Secondly, all the options behind Gobert were awful and actually worse than playing Gobert in the mismatch situations.

Prior to popular belief, Gobert was a great playoff player, he just wasn't matchup proof. Right now with Kessler we can avoid those matchups and still put out great lineups.

Kessler in his first year had better hands and finish around the basket then Gobert will ever have … the story of Joe Ingles having to throw medicine balls at Rudy’s head to teach him to catch was funny .

Kessler had a fantastic year defensively, especially for his first year , whilst blocks don’t tell the story , he killed Rudy in that stat .

Rudy met his ceiling a few years ago , he was great for the Jazz , but what we got was a younger version which far better upside of finishing around the rim .
