GSW Draft Pick Watch

The best thing someone can to to not see good basketball is to stop watching. Be a fan, root for the win, believe in the core players.

I think this tank for a higher pick is a product of our insecurity as Jazz fans. San Antonio got one good pick and has been a contender for years since while turning late first and second round picks into solid role players. We have that good pick player, in fact we may have three of them, so screw the lottery for our own picks. It's awesome that the Jazz may still have a lottery pick even while they are making the playoffs.

You miss on why I want the jazz to lose. I don't want gs to drop below the 8th pick. I would rather see the jazz win but in the case of GS I want the loss.

It's not the end of the world if the Jazz don't get this pick. It simply moves to #6 protected in 2013 so will cash in then. And while this draft appears to be stronger than 2013, things can change quickly. You never know who will end up staying another year.

Good point.

On another note, is it just me, or does your profile pic make Hayward look like Jar Jar Binks?...

That would be key, as 2013 is on par with 2011 otherwise.

Like totally. Players are always giving up the chance at a $12 million plus guaranteed contract to stay in school and blow a knee. Happens all teh time.

I might agree with you on wanting the pick next year if it weren't for Jazz having four rookies and sophomores combined. If it's a youth movement then they want that GS pick last year if they could.

Oh than I misunderstood him. I thought if it was 8 or higher before the lottery we got it. The number 8 pick has a 2-3% chance og being a top 3.[/QUOTE

I thought that it was 8th pick or higher. But now i'm not really sure...either way if we get the 8th pick, it's still going to a great pick up! Lol, I too kind of want Jazz to lose to G.S. tonight...but then again, I love watching the games and HATE watching the games after they lose. It's like, did I just spend 2.5 hours watching Miles put up Clunkers? Jefferson killing the offense? Harris playing more then Watson? Bell still starting and playing more then Burks? And now as I write this .... I wish it was 8:30 already :)

I thought it was so crazy last year, how many players opted to play another year in college. I don't think i could have walked away from instant millions and risk a chance at blowing a knee,

The fear of the lockout kept many players from entering the draft. That many top prospects staying another year is not typical at all.

Pretty sure it's the lottery draw.
I don't think you're right. If this were the case who would be the representative for the pick in the lottery draw? Would it be KOC sitting there crossing his fingers that he doesn't win the lottery and therefore lose the pick back to GS, or would it be a GS representative praying that they win the lottery so that they don't have to send the pick away. I've never seen a scenario anything like that in the lottery and I think that's because the ownership transfers based on the original pick position without regard to the lottery.

Sure, but I think Jazzfanz is spot on that they still gave up a lot with a ton of risk on the line. The lockout had to last for a long time to make that risk:reward ration come in. If it were me I would have declared and hit the gym hard.

I'd argue that we in effect have 4 good picks, the other one being Favors.
Favors would have been my first choice for one of 'the picks' I'd be curious who the other three are for you. My three are Favors, Kanter, and Burks. You probably include Hayward, but to me he's more of a Ginobili, not a superstar, but a player who makes things happen on the court. Then again, I'm pretty sure some people consider Ginobili a superstar, and others probably think Hayward is a superstar in the making, so we'll see.

Oh, and I understand the thinking on not pushing the Warriors down, for fear of making their pick too good, but you have to admit, their win against them was a huge step for confidence building in hard work for the Jazz. (man, ugly game)

If the GS pick gets pushed back to a year with a good PG crop, then I will consider that a success. Jazz need a viable longterm pure PG that can spread the floor and buy in on D. That doesn't require a superstar, though it seems surprising how difficult it would be to find that player.

I still think GS will be better than 7 teams. I think we will be getting their pick this year.

Do you guys think that Golden State would purposely begin to lose games if they are outside the playoffs? If so, I would honestly be ok with the 14th pick in this draft to ensure we get the pick.

No, Mark Jackson wouldn't do that. He is a first year head coach and trying to show that he can win.

I've changed my tune on this. I agree, which is why I'm rooting for them to lose. Unless Curry is practically done for the year, then I think they will struggle mightily. Either way, I will root for them to be bad since I don't like Mark Jackson, I hate how their team is built, I think their ownership is stupid, and whenever it is the Jazz get this pick, I'd like it to be higher rather than lower.

It's top 6 protected next year? Correct? I would rather get it as soon as possible so we can get our core together. I would assume either whatever lottery pick (if we get one) will be the last piece long term piece to our team. We still need a 3rd wing, which can easily be had with any lottery pick in this draft (Barnes, MKG, Miller, Beal, or Lamb).

I even noticed DX has Myck Kabongo coming out next year as the 5th overall pick. I watch the guy and he has a lot of potential to become a good PG, maybe if we promised to draft him, he would come out early?

Maybe. Although I don't believe most players develop better in the NBA than in the NCAA. If you come into the league just not good enough, the gap won't make you better, it will just crush you.

Teams tank every single year, whether the coach likes it or not. Especially in a case where the difference is losing their pick altogether. That doesn't mean the team will be losing on purpose, but you can bet they will be sitting certain players, even if it's just because of a hangnail.

Draft him where? Currently, he may not be 1st round worthy. I put him a step below Avery Bradley.
