Mathews signs offer sheet w/Blazers (5 yrs/34 mil)

My neighbor is from Portland I think I may have to go kick him in the nutz and punch his wife in the throat for good measure.

my source says it a 5 year 40 million dollar offer.

How does that work?
Portland is over the cap so all they can offer is the MLE starting about 5.8Mish? with 7% annual raises that would not equal 40M after 5 years.

Year 1: 5.8M
Year 2: 6.2M
Year 3: 6.6M
Year 4: 7M
Year 5: 7.5M

Total: 33.1M

Or am I calculating wrong?

Yeah, Griffin is making 5.3 M this year.

So Portland really thinks Matthews, in his second year, is worth the same as a number 1 pick?

Per Siler, 5 years, $25M.

Bye, Wesley. Good luck.

Werd! He'll get paid but he'll be watching Roy from the bench. Let C.J./ Hayward man the spot and hopefully be able to get a very good player for AK expiring. Not a Hayward fan but the Jazz might as well accelerate his progression and give him minutes and let him go through the growing pains.

Sorry it was a re-joke from a previous thread.

Jazz will match, was hoping it wouldn't go over 4. Lets hope that portland can start drafting better so they don't screw over our pics anymore

If it's 5 year 25 million the structure would be something like this.

Year 1 = 4 mill
Year 2 = 4.5 mil
Year 3 =5 mil
Year 4 =5.5 mil
Year 5 =6 mil

if this is close to the structure, the jazz would be stupid to let this go.

I highly doubt Portland would offer a contract so close to the full MLE without offering the full MLE. I'd bet it's more than 25 M.

There's not much doubt in my mind that the Jazz will match. Letting Korver go pretty much assured that. Unfortunately we're going to have to overpay him tremendously to make that happen but the FO's pathetic way of handling this offseason doesn't really give them any other choice.

Pathetic? How so? Not overpaying for Boozer?

I'm torn on whether the Jazz should match or not. Matthews is my favorite Jazz player, but he is only a first year player and I don't think he is worth a 5 year, full MLE contract.

Indulge me, what is pathetic about the Jazz off season so far?

For how good Matthews was in his first year, to not think that he will get better over time isn't smart. I think for 5 years at basically 5m a year may seem like much now, but in 2 years 5m would probably be a steal for what the kid could/will do.
