Trade ideas

I think we will see some moves in December and January this season. Doubt we wait until the trade deadline to do our work.

Teams always wait. The buyers want the sellers to become desperate to just get a deal done. The Jazz have solid pieces, but they arent anyone top target.

When I said we see some moves I meant more generally in the NBA. I'm not sure we will be able to complete any deals because of what you mentioned above, but I doubt we wait for first round value on our guys like last year... I think we are more open to trading early for second round pick type value on a few guys to declutter the roster.

I just think we will see one early somewhat noteworthy move not necessarily a Jazz move but I could see Toronto moving a little earlier with everything they have going. Could also see a Lavine deal happening early as that situation seems bad and I doubt his value increases with 6-8 weeks of info.

With the Knicks losing some center depth I wonder if they'd call about KO or Yurt. they have a lot of second rounders including ours this year.

Maybe Memphis could be another team looking to add center depth if they are planning to try and compete after Ja gets back? They are buried in the standings now but still only 4 games out in the loss column for that final play in spot.

I had pitched a Clarke and Adams for John collins. I'd want some pick value in there.

Memphis needs to cut someone prior to Ja coming back. Kenny Lofton, Jake LaRavia, maybe Rose (not sure he's playing right now) would be most likely cut. If they still loved those guys they might be willing to do a two for one with guys that aren't playing. The simple solution is by far the most likely. My guess is they cut Lofton.

IDK if you could get pick value you there. Brandon Clarke is just flat out better than Collins and is on a great contract.

I would just take that as a win if that trade was straight up. You divide the Collins salary between two players. Adams is an expiring who would be great in trades next year and Clarke would be a great backup to Walker who would have value for years to come.

Also helps you tank this year and frees up minutes for Hendricks. Would be a huge W for Utah IMO.

I worry what Clarke looks like post-Achilles. Would agree if he returns to form he's a nice player. Adams could teach Walker how to set screens and maybe toughen him up a bit. Would at least be super quotable and fun.

Would the Pacers do this?
Would likely want to keep Nesmith but yeah I pitched something like this. I think you might be able to sub in mathurin... get the feeling Carlisle isn't a big fan.

Walker/Mathurin and 3-4 picks is what I'd be after.

Not a huge Mathurin guy myself which is why I left him out. Would think they'd want to keep him since they might lose Buddy next year?

That worry is valid, but it seems like the history of guys returning from that injury and getting back to their previous form is pretty high as of late?

Lately its been better but it was horrendous before. He's also so bouncy but I don't know if he relies on it... not sure if that makes sense. Its still probably the most troubling long-term injury imo.

Maybe... they have been so good with Buddy and I think he saw what his trade value was. I bet he comes back. I think they can still extend him.

I'd definitely do the Adams/Clarke swap. But as Cy said, I'd have a hard time thinking they'd add any additional compensation. It's possible you get a small amount of money or a second or two thrown in, but based on how many we've left on the table, I doubt we'd make a move for that. Adams would probably be a pretty good piece mid-season next year to flip to a playoff team looking for a bit of depth. Clarke would be quite serviceable, but even just dividing that Collins deal, as Cy said. Those are actually the contracts useful for a "star trade."

Yeah, but in this world where they get Lauri, they might view retaining Buddy as being too expensive for an offense that is already super-charged without him?

In an Indiana deal I'd want Walker and then I'd prioritize picks over Mathurin... but I do like Mathurin. His value may exceed his actual play because of draft pedigree and playing well as a rookie.

I just dont think Collins makes any sense for the Grizzlies. They have Aldama back now. Is Collins really providing anything for them that Aldama doesnt?

They need a quality wing and a backup PG.

Simone would make sense for them with the way he has played lately. He's at least on a similar talent level as a David Roddy, but provides more shooting which they need.

Maybe... I think he brings and important offensive element they might be viewing differently right now. I think he will be retained relatively cheaply... like $20M per year seems about right. They have really clean books so I don't think the cost is an issue.
