Trade ideas

The biggest reason for the hate is probably the fact that we lacked playmaking and added Collins who is a play finisher over someone who could have helped us with our real shortcoming. So he really didnt resolve the issue, but more like emphasized it.

I agree that his fit with Lauri is much better than what most here give him credit for, and I do believe he was brought in to compete and potentially be a piece in the final product, which is why we chased him all of last season. I mean he has been the #2 option guy in a team that made it to ECF, and was seriously misutilized in Atlanta (kinda sad, since we are doing the same thing and not giving him nearly enough touches).
I don't think Gay and a second was getting us a better playmaker though. But I agree I think we should have made moves to balance the roster last off season and still should.

Jazz need to move on from Lauri. His value will NEVER be higher. He is not a number 1 option. Time to move him before we pay him. And I love Lauri but he is a bit of fools gold on a bad team. Can't create on his own. Basically a modern day Chris Bosh. Great numbers for the Raptors...3rd best on a title team.

OKC is ready to make a move in the west. Lets make a deal! Jalen Williams has a higher ceiling than Lauri IMO. Lauri helps OKC win now and fits the SGA timeline. Jazz are able to fully rebuild with out our picks being frozen until we convey it to OKC or the protections go away in 27.

Jazz get:
Jalen Williams and Davis Bertans.
24 FRP from Hou (top 4 prot)
24 FRP from Utah (opens up our picks going forward while allowing us to keep our pick)

OKC get:
Lauri Markkenan
Simone Fontecchio

Jazz line up:
Keyonte George
Jordan Clarkson (should prolly trade him too)
Jalen Williams
John Collins (should prolly trade him too)
Walker Kessler

OKC line up:
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Lu Dort
Josh Giddey
Lauri Markkenan
Chet Holmgren

Tell me why im wrong ;)
You are not wrong. I concur but I think you need to add another pick. Lauri is a young all star that puts them in to the next category.

I also doubt they trade Jalen Williams. They have other young players and a lot more draft picks that make more sense as pieces.

If we start up negotiations with OKC then I'm sure we're asking for Jalen Williams, but would end up leaving with a boat load of picks instead.

Agree it would end up being like 4-5 prime picks and Dieng/Mann/Bertans. I'm sure we'd have taken Giddy before the issues. I wonder if another team would jump in and take Giddy and give us something else less rapey.

Yeah, you're probably right. What about the $80M, though?

I don't think we are moving Lauri. I think we likely call this a lost season and manage his minutes while finishing 5-6 and see what that yields.

I really do think we get in on LaVine. A "star" at a discount that is a higher upside reclamation project. The downside is obvious and ugly but the acquisition cost is going to be like John Collins and an expiring and then maybe the worst of our 2027 picks (OKC does this when they own multiple picks... you can put language that its the least of the 4 picks we own). I think we flip Sexton/JC either in the deal or in a second deal to clear up some salary/duplication.

LaVine isn't a guy that pushes winning at the highest levels. Like if you are trying to go from mid 40s wins to mid 50s wins I'm not sure he's your guy. We aren't there yet. So I think I'm on board in a "why the eff not" kinda way. 3 requirements... Collins is in the deal, we have a home for Sexton or JC, we only give one low upside pick.

With Lauri and LaVine you should have a top 15 offense. If we are just going to rent our cap space for guys like Collins and THT then go ahead and take a high risk, high reward gamble.

I guess you could call him a #1 those years, but personally I dont consider someone a #1 just because they have the most points on a bad team. Someone had to score on those teams. I am not really calling Kyle Kuzma a #1. I dont even think most people here would consider Lauri a #1.
Nah. LaVine was the face of that franchise back then. They were building around him but soon realized Zach wasn't someone who can carry a team.

Now is the time to go get Wendell Carter Jr. Orlando has been playing well without him and so maybe they feel like they don't need him. Maybe they look at THT and realize the massive hole on their team in terms of "spinny" players.

He had one season where he was 28/5/5 on incredible efficiency. Other years he's closer to 25/5/5 but on really good efficiency. Kuz has always been a volume but low efficiency scorer. I think the biggest knocks on LaVine are he's a defensive liability, he's not the cerebral guy at the highest levels, and injury concerns.

I think with where we are flipping Collins for LaVine makes sense (though I would have just rather not done the Collins deal).

As we've worked our way up from swallowing spiders, mice, cats and dogs, just wait until you see what we swallow to get off of LaVine.

I'm now convinced we are tanking with Collins for the next two years and when he opts into his 3rd we will have a great trade building block.

I don't think OKC is in any hurry to accelerate their timeline. I would guess they are interested in Lauri, like every team should be, but would imagine SGA, Jalen Williams, and Chet are all off limits for them.
Probably not in a hurry, but if Lauri (who is seemingly a perfect fit if they view Chet as a 5 not a 4) is available they may have to. Not like you can just sit on your hands and wait for the perfect timing.

I'm still convinced we don't have much of a "plan" and its one of those things when you don't have a plan you kinda go where opportunity takes you. The next opportunity will be fairly critical.
