What's new

The Jazz are trading D-Will to New Jersey!?

Well, we have won more than lost this year, and we are plating a doormat tonight.
May I suggest a gold-plated doormat.

Bump.
Since we've been talking about Deron, here's the trade thread. Probably 85% in favor of the trade, but a few notables who were not, and a few who are no longer with us (at least not under their same names). Can't believe I didn't get a post in until #523. But I remember I was snowed under with work - my brother actually called me about the trade going down. Thought he was playing a joke on me at first. To say I was stunned would be an understatement. But I was definitely in favor of the trade.

Oh yeah, and I still love JCribb's avatar.

Fun to see how many people were high on devin Harris at this point. Oh how time can be a cruel mistress.

Lots of us were high on mo williams too. (Including me)

Almost everyone was high on marvin after a pretty amazing preseason when he first arrived.

We are homers. Its all good :-)

The one thing I can say about this trade is I'd rather have either Favors or Kanter over whatever the hell DWill has become at this point of his career.

This thread makes me sad. Not because of the trade, but looking through it and seeing many of the great posters who have long since departed the board. JCribb was an all-time favorite, especially with his avatar.

I was excited when we signed Raja Bell (second stint)...man, did that blow up in our face.

No it didn't. He was wiser than us all. He wanted Corbin gone immediately. We should have listened to him.

Would anybody be interested in getting him back? serious question. I think Brooklyn would be open to offers. we could probably pick him up on the cheap (trade wise not his salary). He had his best years ever in Utah. just wondering.

I think salaries have to match in a trade.

Biedrins, jefferson, marvin are all off the books.

To match derons 20 million a year salary i think the jazz would have to trade favors, burks, and kanter for deron.... or something like that.

yup- totally forgot about the 80% salaries match.

that being said - if we could make something work (no Burke, favors, burks) would you want him back?

No, they don't. Jazz would have space under the cap once they renounce rights to their FA's. Jazz can easily give a substantial raise to Hayward, have the cap holds in place for their picks and any additional roster spots AND take on a MAX salary. The question is, why would we want him back? NJ would be looking to get assets back. Deron is a chronically injured player who is not worth his MAX deal. Does he make the team a contender this year or next (the remaining time on his contract)? No, he doesn't. And then what? He leaves as a FA or is even older and wants a ton of money to stay?

If the Jazz are going to "waste" a MAX slot, may as well help the Knicks by taking on the last year of Amare's contract. Phil gets to start rebuilding and Utah does another GS-type deal, getting future picks in return. Jazz can then try to buy out Amare, or keep him around as injury insurance for Kanter and Favors.

Last I heard, both New York and Brooklyn had traded away most of the near-future assets that could be traded.

Just a quick down and dirty. I'm likely off +/- on the cap holds for the draft picks (I'm just guesstimating on the 2nd-rounders). In any case, even if Hayward comes in at $10M, Jazz could add Deron and still be right at the cap once they release all their FA's and players with non-guaranteed deals. But again, NJ isn't looking at Deron as just a salary dump. They'd want good players back - not just Burke and the #23 pick.
