Mathews signs offer sheet w/Blazers (5 yrs/34 mil)

Um the sig is a picture that once it's downloaded doesn't have to redownload again so it's something else on your computer slow it down. Get an adblocker if you don't like it.

This is so classic. It's not a Pritchard move. Pritchard brilliantly constructed the Millsap deal such that even if the Jazz matched, they'd get a valuable asset at a downward price after the first year that made tons of sense for them, was strategically designed to get the Jazz not to match, and still stuck it to the Jazz when they did.

This is NOT a Pritchard move. It's drastically overpaying for a player who doesn't fill a specific need for them and will hurt their franchise. What is Wes going to develop into for them? He's got no shot to be a starting 3. They have a starting 2 locked in forever who already plays 35 minutes. This looks like a rookie GM making a rookie move in his first at bat.

Wow, congrats to Matthews. I dont understand it at all from the Blazers standpoint. They have Batum and Babbit at SF, Roy and Rudy at SG. I guess they are planning on trading Rudy, but still, thats a whole lot of money to give a backup SG.

With a startin salary of $5.7 million and 8.5% annual raises, I git a total of 33.4 million bein paid after 5 years.

How much of this is trying to boost Portland and how much of it is trying to bring down a division rival?

I think it does neither in the long run. I hope the Jazz wish Matthews well in Portland.

Don't listen. I've laughed like 15 times at that sig. I still can't figure out why the guy just doesn't go down.

I thought of that. I mentioned it in another post. But they're stuck holding the bag on this. Getting stuck holding the bag on Millsap was one thing. Getting stuck holding the bag on Matthews assuming the Jazz will match is another. I don't know who the Portland GM is right now, but he's doing a terrible job.

Per Siler, 5 years, $25M.

Bye, Wesley. Good luck.

I would match that offer. Look what some of the free agents got this year and they are not as good as Matthews. Besides if Boozer, Korver and Matthew leaves I can see this as a strong sign to DW that the Jazz do not want to win. Who cares if it is front loaded. The total amount is the same. Have some Jazz fans forgotten how much money this team has given to players who haven't earned it. At least Matthews earned his contract, I will be pissed if the Jazz do not match. They paid Korver over $5 million last year and Matthews is a better overall player.

Well then there you have it. Plug in the sharper numbers instead of blurry numbers and you basically have a full MLE deal with full 8.5 percent raises.

You're a little behind the times.

Wes was my favorite player on the Jazz, but not for the full MLE. There is no way he is worth that. I think he is a huge product on the Jazz system as well. Crazy offer from Portland. The owners are insane if they think they are going to get a better CBA from the players after this free agent off season. They have overpaid everyone.

idiot, no way we should match this. We need to spend money on the front-court, not the back court. Matthews isnt that good, I would love to have him back, but Portland has decided to overpay him.
