Mathews signs offer sheet w/Blazers (5 yrs/34 mil)

Brewer would seem to be an acceptable, cheaper alternative, but I like Matthews better. I would pay more for Matthews, but how much more is a question I would have to really ponder if I was GM--which I aint, so I'll just kick back and guzzle this here wine.

Good choice. The harder it is for you to read the board, the harder it is for you to post, and everyone wins. I've got a sweet, state of the art modem from 1994 that's just collecting dust over here in my mansion. PM me if you're interested.

Here's how I see it going

"Jazz were stupid to match much money!"

OR

"Jazz are cheap and let another player get away"

Yeah, Chad, the haters are always in the enviable position of never losing, eh? No matter what happens they can still piss, moan, bitch, and proclaim their vastly superior knowledge.

No way the Jazz FO comes out of this without massive egg on the face. If they match that offer... well, NO WAY they should match that offer. They let Korver walk without so much as a half-hearted effort to keep him... Boozer's gone, and of course they don't seem to be doing ANYTHING ELSE!!

I can't stop giggling thinking how stupid Portland is now with a new, idiotic GM. Then I break out into a sweat thinking the Jazz will match. I'm in a good place, but I'm not. We're not really going to match this, right?

They should have been proactive and offered him a decent deal right at 12:01, This team is going in the wrong direction.

Maybe we can screw portland now and go after who ever they want now.My guess is that they got some kind of trade going there. Mathews is a good player but not that good. See how well he does playing in there system behind the bench. KOC DOOOOOOOOO NOT MATCH

Wesley Matthews has a unique skillset that cannot be replaced!

This is one of the easiest "no thank you"s in RFA history.

I was on the fence when it was reported 5 yrs/25 mill, now that its 5 yrs/34 mill, I say no way. It will be sad to see him leave the Jazz, but I sure hope the Jazz don't match.

I agree. I thought the 5/25 was reasonable, but it wouldn't be responsible to match this. Gotta let Wes go unfortunately. Blazers will be paying a lot for someone who will pay 15-20 mins a game for them. I think this means the Jazz make a strong push to get Brewer back.

if he is worth as much as Blake Griffin is there a way we can match him and trade him somewhere else for a better player? Maybe we can get some value out of him with the te and ak. If you can i would see what teams might be interested and call around. Maybe at Jefferson out of a deal and send him to the wolves.

Like nearly every athlete, he would have told the FO "I would like to see the offers from other teams, too". That's , unfortunately, called "professionalism". Just another fabricated excuse for disloyalty. Not only Blazers, but also Wes can go to the hell. If Wes thinks he worths that money, he will see + 25mins as a blazer, he is dumb. He is talented but his surge in the NBA has a lot to do with the coaching of Jerry, and system.

Unfortunately, regardless of the ultimate outcome of this RFA process, KOC will be the big loser. Some will blame him for matching, some for not matching.

Well, if ya wanna playz the know-it-all, it aint that hard. Ya just goes round sayin that if KOC had any sense, like you did, he woulda signed Matthews to a 3 year contract at about $.8/year straight outta trainin camp, eh? I KNOW I woulda, if I'd known he'd prove to be as valuable as he is. But, like, who knew, eh?

I'm sure there's many who did, and who will now come outta the woodwork to tell us.

Edit: Heh, I see now that S2 done mades this claim before I even posted, eh? I shoulda knowwed. He ALWAYZ knows it all.
