I remember a film clip the year after Malone and Stockton were gone. Sloan was with the team made up of a few good players and a bunch of journeymen who had been cast off by other teams.
He told them they were going to do a lot better than most people thought they would. Everyone expected 10-20 wins, and the Jazz delivered 42.
Most of you guys see the glass as pretty empty. This team has a ton more talent than that team did, and I am confident they will surprise.
Not likely a championship team, but a solid team... likely in the playoffs, and very well positioned for the future.
Come on guys. This glass is way more than half full.
So is our starting SG not worth the MLE?
I know this deal isn't worth it for Portland, but is it worth it for a player that will start for us next season? Curious what y'all think.

5 yr / $34 mil - $9.2 mil first year
F#$K YOU Paul Allen! It's deals like this that explain why karma bites the Blazers (and the Seahawks) in the *** each year
Seriously, 9.2 million in his first year??? Has anyone really looked at his stats? You have to deeply believe Wes is going to become a star to overlook the fact he's got one year in the game and has numerous limitations he'll never overcome. It sucks to lose him, but Portland's loss is our gain.
man, why a lot of people think when a player gets the "starter" label, he becomes more valuable. 2-3 D-Leaguers either started or played huge mins for GSW and you know how bad the T-Wolves last year. I do not care if Wes starts or finishes the games. I just do not think he is worth that money. Ross Siler tweeted that Wes thinks he is a starter for every team he plays for. I wondered who is his agent, who are the people surrounding him and in the range of his decision processes, and whether Portland joked him.
Just for the record:
- Memo ->9.450 mil
- Millsap -> 6.200 mil
- CJ -> 3.700 mil. next year.
Anthony Tolliver started 29 games for the Warriors last season. Put up pretty good numbers, too. They declined to tender him and he's an unrestricted free agent. Guys who start are not necessarily 'starters.'
Yeah... The player who did start at SG position for the Jazz for 2-3 years - Ronnie Brewer, was constantly criticized for numerous flaws he has in his game. He WAS the STARTER but I do not think any team will take the fact that he STARTED for another NBA team into account before sitting with him on the table for contract negotiations.
I hate Portland. That 9 million dollar upfront payment is lunch money to Paul Allen. To us it's big. Best thing to do is let him go and hope Miles can man the 2 spot.
Here's the crazy thing: I've been dying for the Jazz to stop pretending Miles is a 3. He's way more effective as a 2. Maybe this speeds up that process.
Ah, I disagree. I wouldn't have last year, but I'm seeing C.J. finally start to fill out in the upper body. He keeps it up and he will be legit big 3, small 4, Antawn Jamison size. Doesn't play big defensively, though, which is why I have for the longest time thought of him as a 2 and not a 3. Doesn't matter which one he is in the Jazz offense.
Please never call Miles a 4 again, never. Miles is a wing player, he is capable of guarding (maybe not well) either spot because he has the size and quickness.
