Off-Season Rumblings

Also another update: we’re hosting a get-together with my wife’s side of the family at our house. My BIL just showed up with his wife and 4 kids. They just flew in from Bentonville today.

Give me that ticket to Bentonville or let’s all pile into the back of Randy Quaid’s crop duster and start this ****. We’ll be to SLC in no time.

Enjoy the bus to Omaha.

Sorry. The transmission on the bus went out and the driver bailed. You’re going to have to hitch a ride to Omaha.

Trading for LaVine and his awful contract is a scary thought. He’s not a team player, never has been. If he deserved his contract, the Bulls would keep him or been able trade him at the trade deadline. My friends in Chicago think he’d be the worst possible player to pair with Lauri. I agree.

I'm not sure it's that difficult to be a top 8 in the west team. We already have Sexton and Lauri. I think Kessler is going to have a better year next year. I think Hendricks can be a neutral player and I think we can re-sign Dunn and that gives you 5 neutral to positive NBA players.

I think there is a decent chance that Carter can come in right away and be a rotation level player, maybe we get another one with 29 or 32, or move them for one. Use some assets to get Ingram and cap space on Hartenstein, and I think you have a pretty balanced roster. I really think winning in the regular season is about limiting negative impact players. I think if you can surround Lauri and Sexton with legit rotation players we can be a good team. Then maybe Keyonte hits another level or we are able to trade for someone better than BI and all of assudden we are cooking.

I'm not saying we should go down this path as it likely ends up in perpetual first round exits. Personally I'm ok with something like this, only because I've stopped obsessing with a championship, and just want to watch as much good ball as I can.
Agreed

Lauri should be willing to extend and play here 5+ years, but he isn't quite the foundational star we need.

And yet he is likely better than anyone we will draft in the next 10 years.

And that will be the justification for saying, “it’s different this time.”

It will be the lube that will help slip the dildo of despair farther into this franchise.
Lol
Damn that ****ing dildo of despair

10 years is a lot of time.

There is a chance he's better than whoever we draft in the next 3 years though. That's probably much more relevant. I'm not sure I could put a probability to that, but it's much higher than 0.
And it depends on where we draft but 10 years and like almost 20 first round picks…. Like if we can’t find a borderline AS with one of those then go ahead and wrap up the franchise.

I get and agree with what you are saying.

I'll just point out that I think Lauri is better and more valuable than your typical fringe all star.

I agree on that. The league has also gotten so good. He is perennial AS quality but not an every year selection. But yes the fit thing is really important.

He's very good offensively, but second half Sexton was pretty close, so I wouldn't consider it a huge upgrade.

Mostly I'm just not interested in being stuck with that contract.
If you don’t like his deal wait until you see Ingrams extension

I did a quick look and based on age and overall impact to winning, I think Lauri is maybe the 15th guy I would want on a team that is ready to win now plus building something for the future.

Depends on where we are drafting. Next year, for example, Flagg, Bailey, Harper and Traore, could all become better primary offensive players than Lauri. The Jazz would need a top 5 pick though.

Different styles but to me Zach is clearly more valuable if he is playing at his career best level.
