The Move Forward Plan - NO TANK DISCUSSION IN THIS THREAD

Pretty much any and every rumor surrounding the Jazz has mentioned them trying to upgrade their current talent level. We heard from Ainge himself that they "almost" got a guy that would have made their direction more clear. THIS IS NOT A THREAD TO SAY WE SHOULD TANK. Instead, this thread is intended to discuss the possibilities when we make the assumption the Jazz do want to move forward and upgrade their talent. What are the options? Who do we like most? How can we acquire them. What does that mean for remaining players on the roster? Below is a preliminary list of "almost guys", but feel free to add more or discuss other potential targets.

Ingram
Miles Bridges
Trae Young
Dejounte Murray
Tyler Herro
Jerami Grant
Anfernee Simons
Darius Garland
Zach Lavine
Demar Derozan
Kyle Kuzma
Cam Johnson
Julius Randle
Tobias Harris
Lamelo Ball
CJ McCollum
Keldon Johnson
Karl Anthony Towns
Ben Simmons

As as we were at the end of last season, I think we have a decent (ish) team if we were to add one more guy. Maybe not a playoff team, but we'd be in a similar to place to HOU. For example, I don't think a lineup like this is that bad:

Collins/Kessler
Lauri
Hendricks
Lavine
Sexton

Bench
Collins/Kesser
Key

You need to hit a miracle move, but I do think you might be good enough where the miracle move puts you in serious business.

Would be interested in Ingram, Murray, LaMelo (and Lonzo). Not so much the others.

The very thought of being forced to choose mediocre "stars" to trade for when we are approaching a star studded draft is nauseating to me.

Of course, a lot will depend on what the price is for those "almost guys". I don't think ANY of them changes the fortune for this team in any significant way. So if I had to go with anyone, I'd just go with the cheapest ones so we don't waste valuable resources on getting to a place where we are not even a playoff team. I guess, Ingram is kind of an exception to this one, because I do see him as a potential stepping stone to a bigger move, if bigger move becomes available. But IMO it only makes sense if you have the bigger move in sight. If you are just getting Ingram to become a "miracle" away team... then... thanks but no thanks... we are a miracle away right now. It's the miracle that's the hard part. You can pretty much always trade for someone like 90% of that list... so yeah... I come back to - optimize your chances at the miracle first, before spending valuable resources for the type of players you can get any time you want(when you have the resouces and we do have them).

So yeah... just... tank... please!

At this moment I think I am most upset at what they did at the trade deadline. If they wanted to keep improving as a team, why did they completely dismantle a feisty roster 2/3rds through the season? Could have built some chemistry and some good habits and feel much better about the team right now. It doesn't seem like they ever really cared about the draft pick, so what the hell was the plan there?

Also, hindsight and all but we probably have the #1 pick right now if we just kept the team intact at the deadline.

So what I really want is for them to come up with a plan and stick to the damn thing.

Ingram feels very gettable....I've just been seriously underwhelmed by him in NOP. He has gone away from his 3 ball which makes it extremely tough for him to be efficient.

I read it... and I tried to make myself like any of it. I do NOT. I hate the whole thought process behind it all. I think it's the stupidest thing this team can do and if we do it, we deserve everything that comes our way. I would have preferred we kept Rudy and Donovan if I knew we would be spending those picks on Zach Lavine and Brandon Ingram.

For the purpose of this thread, I do not care what you think when it comes to tanking or not. The point of this thread is to assume we are not. Any an every thread turns into a "we should tank" discussion. You can talk about that in every other thread. This thread is to talk about what has been reported on, which is that the Jazz are trying to get one of these guys and have been trying.

I think he's the most likely guy to have the Lauri-like explosion that everyone talks about finding. Now he's already been an all-star but I think you put him in the right situation and you can have someone that the entire league is kicking themselves for missing out on. NO is garbage and him playing next to Lauri instead of Zion is... well... yeah.

The contract is a real issue, though. I'm fine either way on whether we did or didn't pursue Ingram, but I think if we're balking at him it's a pretty high likelihood we're stepping over 20s to find 50s and end up grabbing 10s.

I want the Rockets to fall in love with a Lauri/Sengun pairing.

Jabari Smith as the big piece, that's a decent heir apparent to Lauri, but fits our timeline better. And they can add the third pick. Small pieces to make it work but #3 and Jabari for Lauri isn't bad imo.

Resign Dunn, Yurt7, Luka, THT and Kira Lewis and give them some run. Hope for the best on the 10th pick. Trade Clarkson for a 2nd round pick. Sign Romeo Langford and instruct Hardy that he had better win or else and he is playing the best players. Remember Ainge likes Lewis and Langford.

I'd trade both JCs for Ben Simmons... I followed your rules lol. I'll stay mostly out of this as my thoughts are known.

I think the only win-now type of guy I can get behind is really Lavine if he's "free".

I like Simons too but we are then starting to collect a lot of guys with overlap on their issues.

I guess there's a low hanging fruit for him to improve on.

If we trade for him, I think you would be able to talk to his agent and figure something out first.

Simmons is a really low risk move IMO. To me, the "distraction" means almost nothing. Maybe the locker room will get terrorized if they can't handle their teammate being the victim of twitter memes....but his contract is expiring and he's actually a good player (even now) when he's able to play. Simmons would be a terrific match with Lauri. I would definitely be in favor of this kind of move.

I don't know how to disassociate my overall thoughts on the direction of this team from this discussion. Even when I'm looking at this list, I'm thinking not about who will make us better but who will cost the least.

OK, here you go... If you really want to be as good as possible next season. Trade 3-4 1sts for Ingram, trade 3 1sts for Garland, pay Bruce Brown in FA if he hits FA, pay Caleb Martin in FA...

Roster:
PG: Garland, Keyonte
SG: Bruce Brown, Sexton
SF: Lauri, Caleb Martin, Sensabaugh
PF: Ingram, Samanic
C: Kessler, Yurtseven

I don't think we need to go all in and be the best team possible next year....I made this thread because it is most likely that the Jazz will go for a talent upgrade of some kind. The reporting could be wrong, but we should have at least one space on the forum that will talk about what is most likely. Every single discussion talks about whether we should tank or not,o you can have that same discussion somewhere else if you want to. This thread is a different discussion.
