2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

It's probably a bit too simplistic, but I think of defense and shooting as what establishes a prospect's floor and their on ball creation that gives them their ceiling. In my opinion Defense and shooting help you stay on the floor as an NBA rotation player, but on ball creation separates you a star.

So Topic for me has the biggest gap in floor to ceiling, really low floor, but really high ceiling. He would be a big swing in my opinion.

On the flip side, "short arms" is one of the main reasons Desmond Bane fell so far in the draft. Doke had plenty long arms. . .
Desmond Bane is also a shooter, not a guy who relies on attacking the basket. Outliers exist, but they are outliers.

Bojan had a bad wingspan but could shoot. I think it is harder to shoot well with a big wingspan. But in the NBA you get exploited on every weakness.

When its part of the big selling point on a pg that he is big and he comes up 6 inches short... well thats an issue. You of all people should know you don't want to come up that short.

It's all about projecting. He's got a one dimensional game that relies on below the rim finishing. If he has longer arms it's easier to see him still being able to swirm and angle around NBA sized defenders. Now it's just seems some % less likely he reaches high end potential.

Also his lateral movement defensively is pretty bad so he has to guard wings. Hard to guard wings when you have a 6'5 wingspan when you can't even stay in front.

For me wingspan is a good indication for how well someone might be capable of guarding on the perimeter.
I get what you all are saying but wing span is the last metric I would use to evaluate a prospect. I don’t see it as something that helps or hinders a prospect other than how much money they make on their rookie deal.

I'm fine with Cody Williams. Won't be my highest available prospect, but he fills a need and has as much potential as anyone in the draft at 10.

Per Givony this morning:

Jazz mentioned as a team that could potentially trade up for Clingan.

Mentions Utah as the best fit for Castle if San Antonio doesn’t take him with either of their picks.

Jazz interested in Knecht who is receiving a ton of buzz in the 6-10 range.

Dillingham is in conversation for every team drafting in the top-10 that is in the market for a PG, but he might need some trade scenarios to come to fruition to aid his cause on draft night.

It’s unlikely Topic falls much farther than 14. Spurs at 8, Jazz at 10, and OKC at 12 are seen as potential landing spots.

Utah is interested in Williams but teams outside the lottery are starting to wonder if he may fall a little.

Edey is getting looks as high as 9 to Memphis and 10 to Utah.

It sounds as though the Jazz are looking at everybody and considering every possibility. I could believe the Jazz are trying to trade up, but I think their target would be Sheppard or one of their favorite wings, rather than Clingan. Just my opinion, but I think Clingan is, for all intents and purposes, the Jakob Poeltl of this draft. Maybe he's better in some respects, but he's basically a starting-caliber two-way big and not a whole lot more.
